Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

It's the only way I could make it run. search for the tutorial that uses AML and proper way to install drivers. at first I could not make it run but i remembered that I needed the selinuxmodechanger when Android 7 was the latest android version

What version of Viper4Android are you using? I have tried the latest Viper4Android (2.7.2.1) and AML (4.1). I also tried selinuxmodechanger set to permissive, although it should not be required any more as the newest Viper has proper SELinux permissions set via Magisk. I guess I'll try a different installation sequence, sometimes that resolves it.

Does anyone's M3X make "tick" sounds randomly when using it as source connected to dac/amp i.e. xDSD Gryphon, and when i turn off and on my Gryphon while connected to M3X using ddhifi tc05 cable it won't connect and i need to re-plug the cable to make it work? i'm using android mode and shanling's stock music player.

edit: sounds like the tick when you paused the music, its the only thing that i can do consistently, but in my case the tick is in the middle of playing music

@Shanling will you be able to advise what is the power output from the USB-C?

Do not have exact specification on this, expect it to be comparable to standard Android phones, as this is controlled by the Snapdragon SOC.

I’ve noticed that when I’m using the m3x as a usb dac/amp from my iPad the listed bit rate isn’t right. Apple Music is sending 16/44.1 and the m3x is listing 32/44.1. Or Apple Music is sending 24/96, and the m3x lists 32/96. Amazon music is always listed as 32/192. I’m running the most current firmware. It sounds great though.

I recently started using the m3x again after putting it down for a few months. I bought it used for pretty cheap and wasn’t thrilled with it, but I don’t think I fully gave it a chance. I’ve been enjoying it this week. In particular I’d never used it as a DAC/amp. This is most likely psychoacoustic, but I think I get more power/darker background in usb DAC mode. As a result, it feels quite a bit more dynamic and detailed.

The 32 bit info never changes, as there is no way for device to detect it. It's completely pointless to even show it.

As long as sampling rates changes correctly, all is fine.

I am also using the M3X as a source connected to a DAC and headphone amp via USB output.

Not sure if it is the same but I get random “pop” every now and then and worse is that I experienced it during the play of the music. Experimented with several cables and adapters and still experienced the same thing. It is not replicable as I could be using the same setup and sometimes the “pop” happens infrequently and sometimes quite frequently. It is really affecting the enjoyment of the music. I could be playing FLAC files or Spotify and same bad experience occured.

However, when playing Spotify using iPad, I don’t experienced any “pop”.

@Shanling In the setting, I set the USB to disk mode, is it correct? Please advise what other settings or any thing I have to take note so that I can use the M3X as a source via the USB output without having to experience random “pop” in the middle of the music.

But i have to use Android mode for app that rotate my screen upside down.

Only system setting affecting USB output is USD Audio fixed volume. Otherwise only other settings depend on what app you using.

Unfortunately have no recommendation for this. There are no real settings that would affect this on M3X and without testing your exact DAC, we can't say what could be causing it.

Thanks for sharing your settings. My usb audio fixed volume was on. I am going to turn it off and try if I still get those irritating ”pops”.

@Shanling I used exact same set up with iPad and experience no pops at all. Thus, I doubt the DAC is the cause.

Using the settings recommended by LunarLight, it improves the situations a bit with lesser pops. However, I am still hearing them.

Please advise @Shanling .

I think the only way to have a clean sound is using the bluetooth, when i use m3x with Moondrop Sparks or with Gryphon via BT i never hear anything other than the music, perfectly clean.
Something is wrong with the usb output.

Indeed, it works fine with BT or the 3.5/4.4 mm headphone output but not with the usb output.
Doesn't the usb output need a dongle with it's own dac inside to output sound? Or a cable with an integrated dac chip. If that's the case then probably that would depend on the compatibility/interaction or what else.
