Different USB port, USB 2 if possible. It's a pretty common error. Sometimes a reboot and retry will work as well.

Unfortunately the process to root Android devices isn't simple and I can't change that. Using QFIL (Qualcomm Flash Image Loader) to extract the boot partition from the device and patching it with Magisk is a bit tedious but that's what needs to be done if you want root access. I posted some links above that provide a tutorial for using QFIL for those that are unfamiliar with this particular tool. If you don't know what Magisk is or does then this might not be for you, but there is plenty of information out there. I'll try to help via PM if there are specific questions.

Note that the benefits of root access also comes with potential danger, which I hope is obvious.

My M3X is not going into bootloader, it's just stuck at startup screen (where Shanling logo appears). Can someone please list the steps exactly what needs to be done with what tool in order?

You need to be in edl mode to use QFIL. The easiest way to get into that mode is "adb reboot edl" from usb debugging. Note that the screen will be blank.

Thank you. I think I'm in the edl mode now but I don't have that .mbn file it's showing in tutorial. Is this gonna be the firmware file?

You need this firehose config file for the M3X. Different devices have different config files:

prog_emmc_firehose_8937_ddr_xiaomi.mbn

Please be careful if you are unsure how to root with Magisk by patching the boot image.

Thanks so much @rlw6534 I think I will stop. I don't wanna ruin my device since I am not a tech guy at all. Shame all I wanted to do was to be able to use AirMusic app to airplay to my homepods that app requires root permissions

I have a problem with USB-DAC mode.
I downloaded and installed the USB drivers, M3X goes into the DAC mode with nice picture, but my laptop does not detect any Shanling devices.
Normal USB connection to copy files works.
Did anyone have similar issue?

How does it show up in device manager when you connect it as USB DAC?

It shows Unknown USB Device (Descriptor Request Failed), both in USB DAC and USB DISK modes.
Tried reinstalling drivers, restart etc.

BTW shanling, the new update doesn't work at all, my M3X still crashes or stopped playing audio like normal when I use it as a USB DAC, maybe it's something wrong with the driver software rather than the device.

I'm not exactly sure what chain you are trying to set up, but I will say that M3X do not have Analog input. So it can not be used as analog signal to BT transmitter.
