Since we're in a bit of a OT anyways, @twister6 @PinkyPowers you guys seem to know this - there are cable producers, like MEE who are making a cable with many adapters, even having something that turns 2.5 TRRS to 2.5 TRS , that is safe, no?

Yes, fantastic solution. 2.5mm TRRS termination with 3.5mm TRS, 3.5mm TRRS, and 4.4mm TRRRS right angled adapters. But it's mmcx connector only. Btw, heard a rumor MEE Audio might release adapters by itself, without a cable.

Adaptors without cables seems like a good idea to me.

That is very badass...the adapter thing is great since I own the Dita Truth cable I am very familiar with the idea. To be able to buy adapter separately would be nice.

That's safe. It only gets dangerous when you come out of a balanced port and use an adapter to go single-ended. The idea is, you want to keep those lines separate for the Amp's sake. If the Amp is built for balanced, it must remain balanced.

This does not apply to single-ended output. If it did, every headphone would destroy every Amp, since the drivers are already fundamentally balanced, with separate +L -L +R -R pins.

thank you! It looks awesome!

I'd also love one of those!

Oh, I see!

So it is the worst to go from a Balanced AMP to a SE adapter, instead of keeping a balanced cable.

Good to know!

I'll be looking into that MEE cable soon then, it looks pretty amazing!

Exactly. If a circuit is designed to have four separate lines, you don't ever want to short those lines together. But if those negative lines are already tied together (single-ended), no adapter will ever truly separate them. Electrically speaking, going 3.5mm TRS to 2.5mm TRRS is still single-ended. And thus, perfectly safe.

Yeah, this is complicated stuff. :D

Hello,

What is pin-out scheme for 2.5 mm balanced out of M3S?

Many thanks.

We even have it pictured even on our official materials :)

Could someone please explain the Auto Standby function for me?

When you pause music on your player and don't touch it for chosen time, it will go into deep sleep/hybernation mode. You can woke it up from it simply by one click of power button and it's immediately ready.

I don't think anybody intentionally makes 2.5mm balanced cables that wouldn't work with the M3s.

Maybe not intentionally, but mistakes, especially with the super cheap cables from taobao/aliexpress can happen. Just to be sure, I always check pinouts on each cable I get.

To revisit a topic from a while back, I decided for curiosity's sake to get a cheap infrared thermometer and compare the M3s's operating temp with different headphones when listening balanced.

Conditions were in no way scientific. Temps in Fahrenheit (sorry, I'm American):

Off: 68
SE425: 95
VE Zen: 89
iSine 20: 86
HD800: 84

This is with the M3s sitting on a table, no case. In its case and in a pocket, temps get quite a bit higher.

We released M3s back in October, in three colors, including new stunning titanium. Yet one of our classic colors was missing. And we think Christmas will be best time to finally change it.

Introducing Shanling Audio M3s Christmas red edition, available on 25th December!

So if you have any money left after Christmas, keep checking MusicTeck, JABEN, Салон Персонального Аудио "Era-in-Ear", Audeos and our retailers in Japan(Itohya.jp), Germany(Shanling.de) and Hong Kong, since they will be first to offer this new edition.

Hello,

Noob question (sorry :flushed:).
This DAP doesn't come with an AC wall charge adapter in the box, correct?

One has to use a PC/Laptop's USB port or an AC wall charge adapter to charge the Shanling M3s unit.

Any precaution on choosing a AC Wall adapter? Manual specifies DC 5v at 2A.
Anything supplying lower than 2A takes longer to charge the unit?
Anything supplying 5V at 2.1A and above risks damage to the M3s unit?

Thanks for your patience, and help :sunglasses:
