Sorry to bring this up again. Could you please clarify?

For M3s to function as USB transport into a standalone DAC, is this how it should be set from the menu?

System settings -> USB Mode == DAC
File Browse -> OTG (DAP asks for "Please Insert OTG)

From here, how do I select the tracks?
I'm pretty much in the dark on this,

To use M3s with external DAC, simply connect matching USB cable, there is no need to go to settings.

USB Mode is setting to use M3s as DAC with computer.
OTG in file browser is usable, when you want to play files from external memory connected over USB.

I think that when you select -
USB Mode == DAC
- that sets the M3s into Receive Mode (to work as a USB DAC), rather than Transmit Mode (to act as a transport).

Yes, you will use the player same as always, just instead of headphone port it will be outputting to USB connector.

USB output should be capable of all formats that M3s can do, so PCM 32 and DSD 256.

My M3s worked untill now, one year and a half. I had only problems with wheeling knob, was not stable. But yesterday I tried to turn on and only grey screen appeared with factory logo, than disappeared for a second, than reappeared. After about one minute try to upgrade a new software and returned to the beginning. Is repeating this procedure ad infinitum. So I presume the software is frozen. I have no idea what to do, and I'm very unsatisfied with its quality. I bought it directly at Shanling shop via aliexpress, so I couldn't claim the guarantee rights in Poland. Please, advice me what to do!

I bought mine about the same time as yours (November 2017).
A few weeks ago, it got stucked on a boot loop: After power on, Shanling logo showed up followed by a click and a new boot sequence. Over and over.
I left it charging for two hours and the problem got solved.

And yes, the turn wheel is its weak point. Mine is somewhat erratic. I work around it, by using the Hiby Link app on my phone over bluetooth connection. I'm still on version 1.30

This is all about the USB input on DAC. Some of them demand more power, some of them drivers, some want to interact with computer.

For such software issues, you can uses "cloner" software to reflash firmware on device, should solve this problem.

You're right. Finaly DAC turned on with no intervention from my side. Thanks for info . It's obviously one of the Murphy's law

Great to know it all got sorted out ok. Those laws of Murphy's are a real pain!!
When it happened to mine.. my heart just sunk link a stone. It was a great relief when the M3s came back up running as good as usual.

Could you please clarify one point?

I'm feeding an SMSL SU-8 DAC from my M3s via USB port.
My chain is Shanling M3s [USB_port] ---> SMSL SU-8 [XLR_ports] ---> LOXJIE P20 [XLR_port] ---> HD6xx hp

The volume knob on the M3s changes the volume level at the end CANs
The signal coming out from the USB port on the M3s unit goes through an amp stage? Being that this signal is to be feed into a DAC, wouldn't it be streamed out as digital signal still?

I am obviously too "green" on these matters, could you please clarify?
