Using Spotify Free, listening to a mix of Windham Hill artists, I really couldn't hear any difference between the Bluetooth, and USB DAC modes of the M3s (other than BT seeming louder, which was easy to adjust to be similar).
It's possible that if you listen to higher bit rate music sources (Spotify Paid, Tidal, etc.), that the USB DAC mode would have a performance advantage.
@DBaldock9 : Can I ask you how does the m3s compare to DP-X1 in term of sound quality? been thinking about getting the DP-X1/XDP-300R for awhile.
The M3s might have a slightly warmer sound than the DP-X1B (both with EQ Off) - or that may just be what I was expecting from the AKM DACs.
One advantage of the DP-X1, is that mine is rooted, and I've installed Viper4Android, which allows a lot of audio signal processing, other than plain EQ.
On advantage of the M3s, is the HiBy Link firmware (only usable when listening to music that's on the M3s), which allows you to put the DAP in a pocket or pouch, and "see" & control it (including Volume) via BT from the HiBy Player app on your phone or tablet.
If you don't need the additional functions of the Android OS, and you're going to be putting your music on the DAP, rather than streaming music from the Internet, then the M3s is certainly the way to go (especially since you can now get 400-GB memory cards).
With the M3s being ~1/2 the cost of the DP-X1A, you could buy 2, to have a back-up.
