Can the Shanling L2 cable be used when using the M3s as a DAC connected to, say, an iPad?

I was wondering how this stacks up soundwise against cayin n5ii ? I own opus1 and am nearly on the verge of buying the n5ii , memory card slots being important to me...but I like some of the ideas and functions on the m3s and hear good things about the sound.

This is from pinkie powers review of the n5II "m3s is a great budget-friendly alternative. It shares quite a lot in common with the N5ii in terms of tuning. Still, there’s no question to my ears Cayin is the more robust device. There’s greater note weight and a more realistic portrayal of depth. The elements on the stage are just a little more three-dimensional. Oh, and the N5ii is wider-sounding". So it boils down to which options you like.

He sort of recommended opus1 to me gave me some info when i bought it and think his description of opus1 was spot on, totally respect his opinion on reflection of owning the dap.
buti came across a few comments on the internet that made me think possibly shanling too and wondered whst others thought.

PTI, but in case anyone is looking for a good deal on a lightly used Shanling M3s (blue), I've put mine up for sale.

Hate to part with the best DAP I've heard under $300, but just blew my annual budget on speaker gear..

"Annual budget?" What's that?

I too, had the same problem with the sd card (samsung 64 pro) after the 1.30 update. After downgrading to version 1.2 the problem was gone.

P.S The DAP is amazing.

Been using the M2S again, such a nice looking little player and the software is great can’t complain.

Now it’s got me thinking about M5S, I think Shanling could make an incredible flagship dap continuing the same sexy design as the S series.

I'd want this flagship DAP to have two AK4497s :L3000:

The most likely choice will be the portable version, the AK4492 which has the second highest specs (right after the AK4497) and smaller than the 4490EN in the m3s. Great engineering achievement.

They even put together a portable premium AKM internal chain: AK4492 DAC + AK4205 Headphone Amp + AK1110 LDO Regulator.

Probably the power consumption and additional hardware to support/take advantage of it, along with the cost. I think it costs over USD $40 for each chip alone, even bulk orders.

Even ESS' Sabre line has their q2m/k2m mobile variants of the desktop chip e.g. ess9028q2m or ess9018k2m.

Well i would be happy to pay a lot (around $1,000) for a High end Shanling player. The sound quality for their implementations is usually much better than any other brands I’ve heard, the Fiio x5iii for example, you wouldn’t believe it’s the same DACs it’s sound quality is poor in comparison to a M2S.

If Shanling go all out on M5S with dual 4497, femto clock, 4.4 balanced, even better screen, 2 sd card slots etc then I’m ready to purchase day 1.

Seems it's problem of latest firmware from HiBy, trying to get it fixed ASAP.

M3S working with 400gb cards?

Gonna put my order in next week and run IE800S balanced.

400 GB card works, even here few people use it with Shanling players.

Hmm, new flagship? M5s you say? Hmm, season of Hi-fi Shows is approaching...

AK4497, AK4492, new Ak4493, there is also AK4495. So many DACs to play around!
