Shanling M2x - TIDAL || Wi-Fi || Both-way LDAC BT & BT Transmitter || Advanced USB transport || FW 2.7

Lol I don't see why anyone would use the Tidal app on the M2x vs. LDACing/BTing it from your smartphone?

Easy when you're at home or office in wifi, m2x plays its own. Leave the phone alone, just create/add playlists albums and m2x do the rest at best. Currently m2x doesn't cache or buffer so any slow down of internet even for few seconds breaks the playback. Tidal integration is one of the best strengths of m2x and cache or preload can fix this issue.

... Tidal integration is one of the best strengths of m2x ...

Everyone's entitled to their opinions but this is where you and I differ. For me, the M2x's strengths are it's design/size, sound, and clean OS.

I would say even something like Cayin N5ii's implimentation of Tidal is far superior to the M2x. I won't speak for others but Tidal Offline is ~85% of the experience. Otherwise, I'm searching for a song on WiFi or something and the operational speed is just got good enough for that as of yet.

Yeah I said Tidal is one strength but indeed others are you mentioned SQ, Design, User Interface etc. Nothing beats SQ in this price range today. Tidal offline integration need Android OS which brings its complications, flagship TOTL products may work good but we have to pay a fortune for that. If you try to put Android in this price range device it will be another fail like Fiio M6. Search do works good however the T9 keyboard is a limitation. If you have your library saved in Tidal, problem solved. For me M2x wins hands down in this category of devices and price range. There are few glitches and improvements which Shanling is known to fix them in future firmware upgrades.

I don't see why anyone would use Tidal, period.
In all seriousness though, I'm using iPhone so can't use LDAC by default, so to "preserve quality" I use the Tidal app instead, at least until my trial runs out. Much higher bitrate than even LDAC can stream.

TBF, Cayin runs on an android and isn't made from the ground up like Shanling's, so that has the best possible implementation. Not to belittle the developer making the Tidal app, but I feel like Tidal is just a small bonus for the Shanling DAPs, which many will probably appreciate to have.

On that note, if Tidal remote player functions on the Shanling, we could just switch, search, playback music from the Tidal app on the phone instead of dealing with the small screen app lol.

On the latest firmware, wish Tidal can actually preload a whole song. Being in the go where some areas the connection will cut out, at the very least I get to listen to the song until the end before getting cut off instead of the middle of the song. At least it connects back fast. Also will there be Master quality support coming?

Software team is working on implementing Master Quality.

Will talk to them, if we can improve it with buffer.

Will the M5s get caught  ?

M2X and M5s are pretty much identical from software side, so they will share all functions.

Apart from the more colorful theme, that was decided to be exclusive for M2X.

Hi all, i have some questions...

any feedback on from those who have tried planar magnetic cans with the m2x (or other high impedance/difficult cans)?

can anyone tell me how to delete old playlists?

does the m2x support in-line controls? from what i can tell it doesn't, but just want to confirm.

are there any case options besides the shanling leather case?

does the m2x support headphones through the USB-C port?

thanks all, happy listening!

1) Using it with iSine 10 and it's pairs really well. EQing can makeup the absence of cipher.
2) While on the playlist menu click on the selection button on top (3 lines with ticks) and select the playlists and delete.
3) Tired with few DACs and usb audio out works really great. Headphones with USB DAC should work but there may be incompatibility with specific models. Need to test a model to say.

I use the iSine 10 with balanced cable to pair with Shanling M5s (balanced output). With EQ, it outperforms the cipher cable. Vocal is not as bold as cipher cable v1 but the details is more, soundstage is wider and treble is much more spakling...

1) For hard to drive headphones, we recommend much more powerful M5s.

2) Click icon in top left corner, the one with check marks. Then you can choose playlists and delete them

3) Unfortunately in-line controls are not supported, apply for all Shanling players :frowning2:

4) I know on Taobao you can get soft TPU cases for M2x. I know version for M5s is sold on Aliexpress, not sure when will they add M2X.

5) Yes, it supports USB-C headphones (but as always with USB, you can from time to time find some that will not work). For use with USB-C headphones, in setting is new function to switch from fixed to variable volume on USB output.
