    Noob question here:

    if I would like to use the M2s as a source and would connect it to an external DAC/Headamp such as

    RME-ADI 2 DAC
    [IMG]

    or
    Questyle CMA 400i
    [IMG]

    what kind of cable do I have to use?
    Just a "simple" USB-C to 2.0 USB-B like this?

    [IMG]

    And how would be the settings on the M2s?
    USB Mode => DAC?
    Output Options => LO?

    Thanks in advance.

    For USB Mode - DAC means that the M2s is trying to be the USB DAC, so that one probably needs to be on USB.
    For Output - LO is just a convenience that sets the Analog Amp Volume to Maximum. It probably shouldn't affect the USB output to an external DAC.

    Thanks so far.
    Will keep this in mind.

    Guess the cable should be fine, or?

    btw....while searching for the manual (can´t find mine currently) I saw that FW 3.1 was published today at the Shanling webpage:

    M2s 3.1Firmware file
    New functions:
    1.Added support of OPUS Codec.

    Changes and fixes:
    1.Higher speed of scrolling text.
    2.Fixed the problem of the wheel’s “press to confirm” function being active while screen is locked.
    3.Fixed other small system bugs.

    Downloading will take ages hence my question to @Shanling if another download option could be provided.

    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe try cancelling and redownloading a couple of times. I'm currently d/ling it and it'll be ~3 min. The speed does bounce up and down though

    I think the cable you linked should work - I haven't tried digital out myself. You could also get a USB-C to coax adapter from Shanling (those are pricey however)

    Will try the DL-cancel-DL approach tomorrow.

    Regarding the usb-c to coax cable i just googled one from Cayin for $39.
    Haven't found such an alternative yet at Aliexpress or similar.

    I thought Shanling had one of their own too. If you consider yourself to be the handy type, I believe Andy Kong posted all the info needed to DIY an adapter on the N3 thread

    Considering that I didn't even know there was a new firmware until you mentioned it I'll upload a copy to my Dropbox acct. - for the greater good:beerchug:
    <link removed due to Shanling posting official links>

    Should be way faster for anybody that wants it. I might also upload a tweaked version…

    I do not think that the Shanling DAPs provide SPDIF on the USB connector.
    That was just something that Cayin did on their own, using a couple of unused USB-C pins in the connector.
    SPDIF is not part of the standard USB-C connection spec.

    I stand corrected. Not worth spending $40 on the Cayin adapter then.

    In theory, this cable should work. We have some random cables like this in office and they work just fine. My colleague always recommends to get cable that is claimed to work with USB C port on Macbooks.

    But the other question is DAC, we can't 100% confirm that it would work, because desktop DACs can have some special demands on the USB input. While we tried our players with a lot of DACs and they worked beautifully, there are few cases where we simply can't get it to work. Even with Shanling desktop DACs, it works with most of them, but I never got our H2.2 DAC/AMP to work with our players.

    Apart from DSD settings, there is nothing that must be set up for USB transport function. Just connect your player, announcement text will pop up on screen of M2s and it's doone.

    Yeah, this happens when my colleagues releases new firmware in the evening while I'm already out of office. Later in this post there is our official dropbox link.

    Our USB port doesn't have added SPDIF circuit, also we never sold such adapter. Just to be clear.

    Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated.

    Just tried to unzip the file but wasn´t able to do it (Archive couldn´t be opened). Not sure if this is on my side or due to the chinese letters in the file name.
    Used @Shanling ´s Dropbox link instead and it worked.

    Thanks anyway.

    @Shanling

    Got a question regarding HibyLink:

    Will there be also an updated version for iOS available?

    Thx and Cheers.

    forgot something: the name of the album is still not shown on the "Now Playing screen".
    Are you aware that this will be added in one of the next releases???

    @marflao That is an excellent Noob question.
    Here is my experience thus far:

    I have the Cayin N3 AND the Shanling M2s. Both have USB-C USB Audio Out.
    I can use the USB-C USB Audio Out on the following devices:

    Ray Samuels Intruder - DAC/AMP - requires USBC to USB-mini OTG cable. Works perfect every time (Except RSA Intruder DAC is limited to 16/44)
    Ray Samuels Predator - DAC/AMP - same as above.
    Peachtree Audio Decco-65 - Uses the USBC to USBB cable you pictured above. It is not 100%. Sometimes, I will hit play and nothing happens. Then unplug it and plug it back in and it works.
    Unison Research SH DAC/AMP - DOES NOT WORK with Cayin N3 and Shanling M2s

    So my answer to you is... You will have to try it. Or find someone who has a Shanling unit (M1, M2s, M3s) AND one of the DACs you have listed above and have them test it.

    Here are some links to cables I have used.

    I have used the Monoprice cables AND the Belkin cable. I bought 3 Monoprice for $0.72 ea and 1 belkin for $19.99. All 4 acted the same way on the Peachtree and the Unison Research.

    Here is an ebay link to some OTG USBC to Micro/Mini ect.
    https://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_...id=301996140546&&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2658

    I am thinking about buying an iFi Nano iOne DAC to use with my Shanling M2s into the Unison Research SH amp. I'm hoping that the iFi One works with the Shanling DAPs.

    Has anyone successfully used this setup? M2s > iFi Nano iOne DAC > any amp?
