Is the projection output optical or coax? If it is coax, you may be in luck. Some additional conversion or specialized cabling may be needed.

"S/PDIF 1(Optical)" is what is stated in the manual.

FIIO and others make optical to coax converters for around $30. You will probably need that. Also probably some cable adaptors as, I recall, the coax input to the M2 is special purpose (like the FIIO units). The M2 did come with such a cable; hope you still have it.

Since I am only going to watch concerts mainly from Youtube and the odd Bluray, do I necessarily need to get a quality one? Does it make a difference? There are plenty of converters available for half the price of the fiio.

This is the last I am going to respond to this line of discussion. Frankly, I do not care what kind of converter you buy. I just hope, for your sake, that what you buy works as that is a potential source of causing the spdif option to fail.

Thank you for the information. Sorry if my questions appeared to be rash. I don't fully grasp how these converters work and could not find anything in that respect online. My guess was that they might be like HDMI cables which do not perform gradually better across the different price classes.

Using low gain should be better.
But it won't help much.

I'd like to get a coax interface cable for my M2. M2 coax output (male TRRS 3.5mm, I think) to coax male RCA to input to my iDSD BL. Anyone know an off the shelf cable that does this? I asked a custom cable company, but they said they'd need a wiring diagram of the M2 output, because different devices use different wiring.

If that fails, anyone know where to get a spare M2 coax cable? Maybe another DAP brand/model uses the same.

Or maybe someone has a wiring diagram for the M2 coax output?
