Guys please: M1 or M0 for best SQ and/or best vfm? What's the consensus? M1 clearly better? M0 clearly better? It's a toss up and personal preference thing? There is no clear consensus? Forget those, get the M2s?

I have a Modi 2 Uber which has the same digital connections as the Modi Multibit - the square-ish USB connector (not sure what that's called), Toslink and Coax. What cable type did you have success with connecting the M1 to your Modi? Thanks.

The M1 also works flawlessly with my desktop DACs like Bifrost and Modi Multibit. Really an excellent little transport. :D

A USB type C OTG adapter (something like this), connected to a regular USB cable that you use to connect Modi to a computer.

Just received my @Shanling M1 after buying it in a sale for £85. Much prefer the UI to my DX50. One thing bothering me so far is the M1's inability to handle multidisc albums. For example, I have one album containing two discs. The first disc songs are tagged as Disc 1 out of 2 with track numbers 1 to 14 and the second disc songs as Disc 2 out of 2 with track numbers 1 to 10. If I go into My Music and view by album the M1 doesn't list the tracks in the correct order. Instead it clumps together the same numbered tracks from both discs, so I get I track order like this 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc.

My DX50 handles these files fine as do I all my other devices so I don't think there's a problem with the tags. Of course I can just use the file browser and then it behaves as it should.

Anyone else found this issue?

Unfortunately long known problem of HiBy software, never got fixed.
Our new system used from M0 forward works with multidisc albums correctly.

Few people prefers M1, most prefers M0(also me personally).
But you must also look on other differences between these two devices, Like controls, size, features.

Cable arrived but unfortunately it doesn't work with my Modi 2 Uber. I get no sound. This is using Schiit's own USB cable connected to the adapter. I know this cable works as I use it for my computer setup connected to the same DAC. The M1 does display a message saying 'audio equipment connected'. Firmware 4.5. Tried various volume settings on the M1. Maybe the M1 just won't connect to the M2U regardless of the cable. Strange. Oh well.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. I no longer have my M1 and so can't verify that it still works with Schiit DACs in its latest firmware. A bad assumption on my part that if it worked before it would still work now.

No problem. You always try these things at your own risk! It's no big deal really as it was just an experiment.

I was going to recommend this DAP to a friend who mainly listens to vinyl. The M1 could have been a decent little transport on which he could store and play his digital music in his main system. The ability to play tracks via the mobile app would be ideal. But as I've found there's no guarantee the M1 would play nicely with his DAC.

@Shanling ...
Are you guys working on an M1S??? AP80 is very interesting to me but can't say I like that wheel position better than M1 so if a M1S was coming to present another option that would be cool. Has to have the FM radio though for me :)

A little late replying to this having only just bought the M1 but for anyone else wondering the same. I've had the same pair of Grado SR60s for twenty years and always had a love/hate relationship with them. I find them very harsh when paired with some sources but they sound absolutely fantastic with the M1.

One of those nice surprises when something old and unused gets a new lease of life.

I imported my Grados from the US back in the day when they were unavailable here in the UK. How times have changed in terms of the choice we have nowadays.

has anyone tried the shanling M1 with Grado headphones?!

i currently have FiiO x3ii, which sound great with all my other headphones expect Grado ( gets more hot in upper frequency than usual)

i have been thinking of getting shanling M1 as i like its aptx bluetooth feature..however no line out is a concern..

This is actually unrelated to the product, but...
Has anyone here gotten a Shanling M0 that's used from Amazon even when it is marked new?
I found that the unit I got from Amazon was a used item. The box is slightly torn, there was no seal, and there was still memory of the music the previous user listened to (surprisingly, they also listened to some obscure music that I did too; I'd like to know the previous owner, haha).

I'm not really complaining though; the unit was in flawless condition, if you don't count the box.
Just a heads-up if anyone is in the same situation I'm in.

Maybe it would be better to post M0 question in M0 thread: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new...ransport-and-ess-sabre-es9218p-fw-2-1.874859/

Can you please tell me, who was the seller of this unit? So it had no tight plastic foil?
Thanks for responding!
Sorry; I mistakened a Shanling M1 notification for an M0 notification.
Anyway, from what I can tell, it's sold by "SHENZENAUDIO" from Amazon.
It had no tight plastic foil and the box was a little torn; possibly from the previous owner trying to open the box improperly.
