What earphones do you use? If I doze off listening to music I always wake up about half an hour later and have to pull out my earphones.

I'm sorry but my answer probably won't be any help for you.

tl;dr I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a number of years ago and got a CPAP machine. I stopped using it after about 8 months but... Since I sleep on my side I had issues with my head slowly settling down into the pillow as I slept and causing my mask to gap because of the pressure from the pillow on the side of the mask. So I found something that worked for me. I used one of those U-shaped travel pillows. I'd set it on top of a single regular pillow, oriented upside down or backwards, so that the bottom part of the U was under my neck and one arm of the U supported my face from under ear on my jaw along the side of my face in front of my ear and my temple. The other arm of the U supported the back of my head. The end result was no way was there any pressure on my CPAP mask. Very long story short, although I don't use the machine anymore, I still use the travel pillow. So I can use any earphone, even ones that would stick out up to about an inch and I'd never have problems because the area under my ear isn't touching my pillow.

Having said that, I'd suggest something small like the SoundMAGIC PL50 or similar style designs, KZ ZST (under $20), TFZ (the Fragrant Zither) either Exclusive or Series lines (although I'd suggest the plastic shelled ones as lighter and less likely to fall out or need to be removed. The metal shelled (in the $100 range for these) King, Exclusive 5 and Series 4 all get good reviews here. The plastic shelled ones are less expensive and still get decent reviews). I've used the following personally, although remember my caveat above, SoundMAGIC PL50, KZ ZS5 and ZS6, TFZ Exclusive 5, Brainwavz B150, Senzer High Resolution, Marshall Mode, Mee Pinnacle PX, A151 and M6 just to list some of the IEMs I've been experimenting with the last few months.

Thanks very much for your detailed answer. I like the sound of the travel pillow as well - I've tried to squash my normal pillows into some strange shapes so I can lay with my head to one side and not put any pressure on whatever earphone I'm using but it doesn't always work very well.

Hi guys, i want to ask something.
I can't seem to use USB DAC feature on my notebook. It's running win 10 64bit. Resetting the device isn't changing anything. My notebook just won't detect anything when i plugged the m1. My sd card is also not detected. It shows nothing on my notebook.
I've downloaded the usb driver and installed shanling audio control panel but still won't detect. I'm on the latest 4.1 firmware. Last time i used iBasso DX50 on the same notebook it worked fine. Am I missing something?

hm... got issue with upgrading to 4.1. tried firmware from shortened google link and from shanling.com
i copy update file to the root of microsd card -> connect microsd -> device see flash card just fine -> choose in settings firmware update -> agree -> device reboots -> logo appear -> screen blinks black and boots again normally. i tried many other microSD drives, i tried formatting it in vfat or exfat. i tried to use gpt and mbr... or just straight device formatting.
    nothing works this time.

i successfully updated from 1.0 to 4.0 using my 200gb microSD card formatted as exfat+mbr partition scheme... but from 4.0 to 4.1 ... no way.
is there another way to do so? maybe downgrade and then update to 4.1? how to downgrade?

    @Shanling ping.
info@ mail from shanling.com ignore all messages and there does not seem any other support available (except chinese phone?).

Try to upgrade firmware without UI: turn off player, hold "up" button (in the middle of the left side) and turn on the player.

You can upgrade and downgrade to any version of firmware.

if i hold button and release on logo -> it powers up with logo -> blinks with black screen and then powers up normally.
if i hold button - same as above but repeating blinking with black screen again and again.

    i tried doing for 4.0, 4.1 and 1.0 firmwares ... no luck.

Sometime last week, my one year old M1 developed a power system fault.
While charging, it was getting warmer than usual - and was also getting warm while Off and unplugged.
Another symptom, was that I could charge it up, turn it on to see that it was charged, turn it off - and with nothing plugged into it, the battery would be completely discharged within six or eight hours.

Unfortunately, I was busy traveling to another city, to attend the wedding of some friends on 11-NOV-17 - so I wasn't able to take advantage of the 11.11 Sales on AliExprerss, to get a discounted replacement.

Please can you tell me what does the player display when you connect it to PC in both of the USB settings?

You can firstly try the force upgrade over buttons. Long press “POWER” and “PREV”when power off.

If that doesn't work, you can update the player by using your PC and our cloner tool. But it's more complicated way.

    Cloner software https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tHsHuQp2a4cUr4WsvB3hGwO_ktYTNmGX/view?usp=sharing

    M1 4.1 firmware for cloner https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pKMI3oZMEwbXtxCibrITT6xCNrvOxi7r/view?usp=sharing

Can you PM me details of your email? It's for now managed by my chinese colleague, i will be taking it over in next few days.

Just wanted to double check. If I give 4.1 a try and dislike it can I go back to 4.0? Will going backwards require using the cloner tool and a PC or will the button press operation work?

Yes, you can simply load older firmware and do the "system update" again. But 4.1 doesn't bring any big changes for M1.
