Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

Unix/Mac are much more flexible re file names but OSX does hide some system files that show up when you move, eg a thumb drive, to a Windows machine.

So does Linux/Unix. Files and directories starting with a dot e,g. .config or ._Trash are hidden. Windows shows all files, regardless.

But I turned that off as explained above, and the _explaylist dir didn't appear. And it doesn't start with a dot...

Certain applications (finder, ls, etc) hide files starting with a dot, but they're not special at the OS level. Windows has an explicit file system level "hidden" flag that equivelent applications (DIR, File Explorer) use to hide files. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

There's one other weirdness on the Mac. Because Classic Mac OS used ":" as a directory separator, and putting dates in filenames was common, Finder displays ":" as "/" and Classic Mac programs that created files with slashes in them (back in Power PC days) got "/" translated to ":" by the Mac OS emulation layer.

My best guess is that the file system driver on the Shanling can't handle creating files or directories properly if they don't fit in the 8+3 limitations of classic FAT16.

Yes they think we want Audible, no, we just want bookmarking of podcasts and audiobooks - or any long mix or file would do. It doesn't have to have a special menu, or app, or anything.

The Playlist stuff which think fewer people want is not that technically different, adding files to a database, just that you need to save position as well. I mean even if it was somehow working on a directory or genre tag, rather than every single file, or files over a certain length that would be a start.

I can tell you I'm definitely not demanding some audible from our software team, just basic functions of any decent audiobook/podcats players we have on smartphones.

But I'm not in charge of our software team.

I did mention that I added one song (Welcome to the Machine) to it?

I since noticed that the file shows up in the file browser interface on the m0, but I can't see it on my Mac, either USB connected to the m0 or with the card in an SD reader. It's like the file system driver on the m0 is not creating the directory properly. This is definitely a bug in the m0. @Shanling - please get your developers to test ExFat file and directory creation and verify that a Mac can properly see the result. Because if it comes down to a choice between my Mac Pro and the m0 I'm going to have to decide in favor of my Mac Pro.

Thank you, will report it to our software team.

As we have no Mac computers in our office, we normally don't get to test such situations.

I guess you probably should get one. Or at least try making a directory with a shorter name.

You can get a 2014 (recent enough for current OS) Mac Mini for $300 here. https://www.macofalltrades.com/shop/apple-desktops/mac-mini/ ... I dare say you can do better locally. Or hackintosh it.

This is your first attempt at creating files on the SD from the m0, isn't it?

I have owned my M0 for over a year now and I just wanted to say that I have been really impressed with the support @Shanling has given the M0! Speaking in terms of how fast things move in this industry it has been out for a while, but you guys keep releasing regular updates which add features and functionality as well as bug fixes. It has been a great little device for when I want to travel super light, and the added functionality for the button support over Bluetooth is awesome. Keep up the good work!

Same feelings here and very much appreciated. I am always rethinking my DAP setup and, eventually, I will be retiring my larger players and thanks to the M0 and the updates and support here I will be seriously considering one of those larger devices from them.

A Happy New Year to all!

Happy new year to all headfiers,
My M0 hit the floor on the volume knob. It`s now bent just enough that it react when I lightly touch it.
Can the knob be replaced easily?
Thank you.

Need to do some disassembly, but here they sell the original replacement parts. This link has been shared by @Shanling on here before, so it's legit.
https://shenzhenaudio.com/products/...creen-battery-for-m0-hifi-portable-mp3-player

It shows the instructions too. Not sure if you're comfortable openning the device yourself, though.
Me, I was thinking to buy a different color wheel and make my own 'limited edition M0', but never did yet.

So, if you were going to do the repair yourself might consider that option.

It look pretty easy to do the repair.
Thanks a lot Rafs.

Good 2020 to all!

I'm getting some difficulties with the connection of M0 (with the last firmware version) and Anker liberty neo TWS earphones.

Sometimes it takes long time to connect and today it was even possible, in BT settings they era connected but there's no sounds.

Any suggestions to solve the problem or its is a firmware problem?

Thanks in advance

M0 has it little bit more tricky than our other players, because volume wheel assembly is there quite tight. Sometimes you even need to move battery to get proper access to it.
But yeah, check the link to Shenzhen Audio, that guide was written by me.

@Shanling What program do you use to set replaygain tag?

We found out Foobar works nicely and easily.

Firstly, make sure that on M0 you have set matching BT codec to your Ankers.

Secondly, sometimes it just helps to reset TWS and pair them freshly with M0.
