Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

Can I say first of all a big thanks to all who take the trouble to post - really good to hear all the useful comments, suggestions etc etc. A particular thank you to Shanling ( is it Frankie??) for responding quickly and fully - even if all problems cant be sorted immediately - or even sometimes are down to user ..... misunderstandings!?

APOLOGIES! APOLOGIES!!
Apologies again to all. ( My previou post mentioned........user misunderstanding!!! DOH!!!! )

Yep, Frankie here.

And glad you managed to get your LDAC headphones working.

Best thing abt it is a full battery on my phone and the absolute silence when connected to my empire ears Spartans which are really sensitive to hiss.

Hiss was always my biggest problem with DAPs, my hearing is very sensitive to it and I'm using some hiss prone IEMs(Noble Katana, Jomo Samba). And due to this combination, I found only 2-3 devices on the whole market, that I would call truly quiet. I was so happy when we managed to get M0 dead quiet.

Honestly, for late night listening with my Sambas, I prefer to use hiss free M0 to my modded M5 and my other High-end players :)

Is there a release date for the new FW which supports use as a digital transport without interruptions yet?

With beta testing group, release should follow shortly.

Hi,
A question to the folk who have the M0. Has anyone connected it to their hifi via Bluetooth, and if so, do albums play gapless over Bluetooth? The reason I ask is that my fiio x1ii seems to stop then start for every song, which is annoying.

We actually get new expert on BT, so hoping to get all BT weaknesses fixed in near future.

I'm wondering if you can stream Tidal Hifi via bluetooth or is there a way to do it via usb-c out to M0

Your phone views M0 as BT headphones, so it can stream all the sounds from your phone, no matter if Spotify, Tidal or Youtube.
M0 can be also used as DAC with phones, but there it depends on the software of phone.

I have the black M0 for more than one week now and I really love the little device! It nearly covers everthing I wish from a DAP. I think in the Firmware v1.5 there is still an issue regarding the display of characters like ä,ö,ü in album or artist names. They are shown correctly in the folder view, but not in the 'my music' or 'now playing' view.

I also have two suggestions, that I would love to see in future firmware versions:
- it would be really great, if the M0 would create a play log file on the SD-card (a simple .txt file containing date, time, artist, album and trackname would totally do the job)
- in my opinion a slightly different behavior in the menu navigation would be great: If you navigate through folders or artists/albums while playing a song, the device always jumps back to the folder containing the song that is playing, as soon as you switch off the display. I think it would be great if it stayed in the folder where you navigated to. This way you could search for the next song before you actually play it. I think this was the navigation behavior of the old Ipods, if I remember correctly. It's a bit hard to explain, but I hope you get the idea.

Thanks to the whole Shanling-team, for doing such a good job!

Need to sort out these font files to get rid of these unique symbols problems.
Log, can ask, but not sure if it would be useful to anybody else? For which purpose you want it, Last.fm?
I know what you mean with the navigation, but implementing this would mean we would also need to add another command, how to get to currently playing album/folder. We have it planned for future devices with bigger screen, will see if we can get it to M0.

I had a question. The HR (Hi-Res) symbol seems to come up randomly, but how does it decide what is considered HR and what isn't? I have some high quality flacs and alac files that don't show up, but then randomly some mp3s will trigger the symbol to come up on screen...seems a little random.

for what can i see it shows up when the sampling rate i grater than 44.1khz, all my mp3 files that are 48khz show HR logo. i think that this should be more with bit rate than samplig rate.

Firstly, showing HR logo on 48 kHz is mistake, should be removed.
Secondly, definition of Hi-Res is little shaky. Some sources put it straightly as 24/96 and above. But what about 24/88.2, which also covers the frequencies above 40 kHz? Somebody else consider Hi-res file even if it's only 16 bit, but with high frequency sampling rate. So we don't take it that seriously, in the end, HR logo is just something secondary, like different colours of diodes on your DAC.

Put my 400gb card in it, worked like a champ. But now quick question, how do I get a hold of the scroll bar during folder view? Please don't tell me it's not possible to drag the scroll bar on the right for faster scrolling.
Perfect dap for mowing the lawn.

We will implement it in folder view in future updates. We are not satisfied with sensitivity of scroll bar in tag browsing, working on it to get it smoother and more reliable.

@Shanling, quick question is there custom EQ in the next update or is it planned for a latter date?

Later date, firsts updates will focus on fixing all the small problems and overall tweaking of system. Additional features will be coming after that.

Hello,

I received the player and I am very pleased... very little, beautiful design and nice sound paired with my Brainwavz B400 and even my earsonics Sem9. Now, I have one question, English is not my mother tongue so sorry if I am not clear but wanted to know if it's possible (or if it will be) to read sub-folders.

Let me explain: For example, I have main folders by music styles, two folders named Electro and Jazz, in the Electro folder, a serie of other folders with several artists and the same with the jazz main folder in with they are several artists folders. Is it possible to read the Jazz folders only (by shuffle). It's a very nice fonction that can be used with my AK 70 mk2 and my ex Fiio 5 mk3 for example.

I hope it's clear enough.

Thank you for the answer...

When we can expect firmware update with support for LDAC or aptx codec while using as BT receiver?

Also, I would like to see option to play/pauze, next/ previus song while using as BT receiver.

LDAC receiver probably next week.
APTX receiver probably never, need different hardware for that.

Hey all, i am really interested in the M0 to pair with the Audeze Mobius i will be getting from the Indiegogo campaign, but i have a question.

Is it possible to play all files that are stored on the SD-Card in random/shuffle mode?
This is how i listen to my music when on commute, which is ~95% of the time i will use the M0.

Awesome, thanks for the fast reply!
That would make it a perfect pairing for me with LDAC to the Mobius.

But i think I wont be ordering the M0 before i have had some time with the Mobius.
Currently my portable setup is Luxury&Precision L3 with Oppo PM3 in balanced mode.
I would love the convenience of M0 + Mobius (smaller, no cables), but i will only go that route if the Mobius sounds better or at least equally good (to me) as the Oppos, AND if the Mobius dont turn out too big or something for commuting.

Can we apply to be beta testers? If yes, count me in!

Unfortunately closed and only for Chinese(for quicker direct communication with software team).

I connect my M0 with iPhone 6s, use NePLAYER as playback apps, gapless playback works fine.
