Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6
Nov 27, 2019 at 7:39 PM Post #5,731 of 6,413
I bought my M0 less than a year ago.

- Battery life has never been great, but it has drop lately to a couple of hours of lossless playback.
- The SD card has been stuck in the TF slot since the first time I loaded it (the spring mechanism didn't ever work).

I guess I've been out of luck with my unit since I can't find similar reports from other users.

Since the device is not reading the SD card anymore, I've resorted to use it as a USB-DAC for my phone.
It kinda works, but I have to reboot the device several times as it hangs when booting up.

I've installed the latest firmware and run a couple of factory resets on it, but the issues persist.
I'm about to give up and throw this little gem to the drawer, but it sounds great and has a lot of nice features, so I thought I'd try one last time and ask for help.

Any tips for avoiding the dreaded boot freeze and/or improving on battery life? Thanks in advance

If your M0 is less than year old, please contact your seller for warranty repair/replacement.

My first M0 had similar symptoms - wouldn't hold a charge and the SD card was stuck. Turns out the battery swelled and jammed the SD card. You can probably get the card out by digging something sharp into it and levering it out.

My solution was to just buy another one. It's part of the risk when buying from overseas sellers with no after sales support.

Thanks for replying! Yeah, it definitely seems like a hardware issue with no easy fix.
And as for getting the card back, I think it has broken from my latest attempts to get it out the slot, as the M0 doesn't event recognize it anymore.
I think I'll just resign and just turn the page.

Cheers!

If your M0 is less than year old, please contact your seller for warranty repair/replacement.

I've considered doing that as I bought the M0 on March 6 from an AE seller, but I've always refrained as my understanding is that the costs for sending the device back to China may be too high.
Anyway, it may be worth a try writing the seller and see how it goes.
Thanks for your suggestion!

Will report it to our software team.

Will try to have a look into them.

I was asking for your location, since we found out some BT headphones have limited volume in EU due to local laws.

Some functions are simply set in way we believe are best and fitting most people, unfortunately we are not able to offer settings fitting every single user.

You are incorrect in your assumption.

It's unfortunately case of software that gets bigger and bigger over time, getting connected to more and more products, building up list of features it needs to contain.
List of needed functions right now:
- Remote control for DAPs
- Playlist manager for DAPs
- Remote control for UP2 Bluetooth receiver
- Signing up to Chinese music streaming app
- Fully functional music player

I think there is talk it also should work as remote controller for Music Streamer.

Now it's up to software team to fulfill their promises and deliver it as soon as possible.

@Shanling, what is the current situation for the wish lists after 6 months?

@Shanling

A wrist band will also be a real boon. Only if you could.

Also custom watch faces on the lock screen with the display of the name of the song being played would be really useful.

Is there any way to have the unit ACTUALLY automatically connect to the only bluetooth device instead of just playing nothing over the not plugged in 3.5 mm audio port?

It should play, at least see that nothing is even plugged into the 3.5 mm audio port and then try to connect to the bluetooth. Which if it is present, should then start playing.

If I power cycle the M0 (with bluetooth turned on), it then turns on the bluetooth icon but it still makes you hit play first to do so then it starts to play for a few seconds then stops and then the bluetooth icon lights up then you have to press play again and then it actually plays. This always happens and it doesn't matter if you have spent a while after rebooting or not. It always requires you to basically press play twice and wait a while to actually have it start playing. It's very annoying.

I have the latest (3.1) firmware.

Also, the battery life over the last year has dropped a fair bit. The headphones last a few hours longer than the M0 does now.

The Shanling download section of their website has a list of the updates.

The autostart feature for the car seems really cool.

I think adding replaygain will make a lot of people happy.

Keep up the good work.
Thank you

Shanling M0 Firmware V3.2 notes

Thank you very much @Shanling. That is a really nice update.

How does one confirm ReplayGain is working? Toggling it while playing a song does not change the volume. I am trying this with FLAC files on shuffle so far.

Also, what is the use case of the playing speed? If it is for audiobooks/podcasts, I would expect 1.25x/1.5x more than 2x/4x.

I second 1.25x/1.5x being optimal playback speeds
