Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

Weird coincidence - I also have a V35, M0 and a Bose Soundsport Free. The Soundsport Free can get deafeningly loud (at least to my ears) with the M0. Note you've got two volume controls - one on the M0 and one on the right earbud. Have you got the level on the right earbud turned all the way up?

If that doesn't help, what firmware version do you have on your M0 and your Soundsport Free?
Deafening loud lol not for me...neither on the v35 nor the m0...mostly use the bose in loud gyms or during commute....get quite louder on the v35....have both m0 and bose on latest firmware ...also volume s all the way up on both bose and m0...

Can you do me a favour though ? Can you try the bose on both v35 and m0 and see if there's any difference at max volume ?

Tnx in advance

Tried everything, volume still isnt getting as loud as it should and can.

This is interesting, now we need to identify what's the difference.

Alright so I went ahead and connected my bose soundsport to my roomies samsung galaxy phone...and like on the lg v35 they re way louder than when connected to the m0....Idk whats up...

Can you try to completely unpair Bose from M0(Delete from BT menu), restart M0 and pair again?

Ok I am having an issue with my M0. I have used this well over the last year and 4 months. I use it for the gym and now I can not use it. It will show it as working and the time of the music on the screen is moving but I get no sound out of it and it is at max volume so, I am wondering what I could do to fix it? any help is appreciated.

I ran a few tests with two different M0 units (running different firmwares) with a -1dBFS 1kHz sine wave test signal into my 711 coupler:

Soundsport Free + M0 unit 1 (Vortex 2.3 Firmware): 113.5 dB
Soundsport Free + M0 unit 2 (Shanling 3.1 Firmware): 113.5 dB
Soundsport Free + LG V35 via UAPP: 109.9 dB

So, connected via my V35, the Soundsport Free is actually quieter than via the M0. The volume control behavior is different on the two devices. On the M0, the Soundsport Free's volume control is adjusted independently from that on the M0 itself. On the V35, at least via UAPP, the volume controls appear to operate in lockstep. So you need to be a bit careful with both volume controls when using the M0.

According to these guys:

https://www.noisehelp.com/noise-dose.html

the M0+Soundsport Free combo can permanently damage your hearing in under a minute. How much quicker do you need?

Assuming 113 dB is actually enough for you (it really should be, in any environment), then I don't know what's going on with your particular setup, but it doesn't seem to be a generic problem with either the M0 or the Bose Soundsport Free.

I tried AAC quickly and it seems to be better.
I'll try it when running.
Thanks a lot for tour Quick answer
Tried M0 with Jabra 65T, in AAC and it"s perfect. No cut.
@Shanling Thanks again

Hi James! If you want us (I mean anyone here) to help you, you need to tell us a bit more. You say the display shows a file playing, but you have no sound. You have no sound on bluetooth (1), on the output (earphone) socket (2), or both (3)?
(1) With bluetooth it is quite possible to have no sound, when the connection is messed up. Unpair your device from the M0, restart (switch off and on) bluetooth on both and reconnect. After my daughter used my soundgear with her MacBook, I had big trouble connecting the M0 to my speaker and headphones, because they were insisting on reconnecting to the MacBook - the only way to reconnect them was to physically walk 200m out of the house so no device could "see" the MacBook anymore. Out there, in the street, I could connect them again.
(2) Try at least 2 different devices (earplugs, speaker, whatever) plugged in and make sure the volume it fully up. If both do not work (but you do have sound on bluetooth), the socket might be broken.
(3) If there is no sound coming from both, it might be software related. Shut down the M0 completely and restart. If that does not help, restore factory settings (that did the trick for me once when my M0 had become unresponsive). If that also does not help, roll back to an earlier firmware (reinstalling the same firmware does not work). Succes.

Wow thanx for the detailed analysis....connected to my v35 I keep the bose arnd 70 80 % vol when indoors and arnd 90 % at the gym....
So its pretty obvious am doing something wrong ....i 'll have to play around with settings on my m0 to see if I can get the bose to go louder...
Btw thanx for all the help

I am guessing I broke something in it.I inserted a micro sd with music on it but no sound. I tried 2 different headphones and updated the firmware.

Apart from hardware problem, I can only think about some error, that is causing M0 to think it's sending signal to BT/USB out and for that reason is muting analog output. Try factory reset for this.

On M0 settings for BT are very straight forward, set it to AAC and you should be good to go.

But I can confirm we had sometimes problem with BT headphones showing too low volume on MTouch devices, mostly caused by some glitch in volume setting, when switching from phone connection. But simple re-pairing or reset of headset fixed it.

I bought my M0 less than a year ago.

- Battery life has never been great, but it has drop lately to a couple of hours of lossless playback.
- The SD card has been stuck in the TF slot since the first time I loaded it (the spring mechanism didn't ever work).

I guess I've been out of luck with my unit since I can't find similar reports from other users.

Since the device is not reading the SD card anymore, I've resorted to use it as a USB-DAC for my phone.
It kinda works, but I have to reboot the device several times as it hangs when booting up.

I've installed the latest firmware and run a couple of factory resets on it, but the issues persist.
I'm about to give up and throw this little gem to the drawer, but it sounds great and has a lot of nice features, so I thought I'd try one last time and ask for help.

Any tips for avoiding the dreaded boot freeze and/or improving on battery life? Thanks in advance

My first M0 had similar symptoms - wouldn't hold a charge and the SD card was stuck. Turns out the battery swelled and jammed the SD card. You can probably get the card out by digging something sharp into it and levering it out.

My solution was to just buy another one. It's part of the risk when buying from overseas sellers with no after sales support.
