Am I the only one who thinks this will cause a huge amount of confusion for newcomers unsure of the relative merits of home vs. portable amps? The number of "recommend a portable amp under $100 for my K701s" threads will increase exponentially, I predict.

The separate full size headphone and IEM subforums make sense, as at least newcomers will know which they want before they ask about them, but this one seems a little misguided.

Opinions? I know people will generally oppose change, but the flaws in this one seem glaring, at least to me. It's not as silly as the separate subforums for "objectivists" and "subjectivists" when it comes to cables and such, but that's another debate.

I don't think there's much of a problem. In my experience most people would at least know if a home or a portable amp would prove more suitable for their circumstances.

You'd think that, but the number of threads similar to my made of example above would say otherwise.

Either way, there's a thread about the forum changes in general in the Member's Lounge which I didn't see before posting this. Feel free to move discussion there if it pleases you.

I think most people new to head-fi, especially given that head-fi is such an information-rich resource, generally lurk/browse several threads before actually posting. I think that people posting immediately without getting any bearing happens, but is rare. If anything, I think this will help delineate the difference between two very different products - I have seen several people who have desktop rigs and end up asking if a portable amp will work in that situation when a home amp will work just as well.

I don't think it will be a problem.
Cause most people know if they want (or even own) a portable or home amplifier. Hence find the correct sub-forum.
