If I remember correctly, the Hansen/Apheared amps do modify the original design, but I forgot how.

BTW, how much do you charge for a prebuilt, JMT?

eric, if you built the stock cmoy yourself building one with Apheared's mod should be no problem. Frankly, I find Apheared's version easier to build than the original. Adding a volume control shouldn't be a problem either. The amp should drive your 600s without a problem. My 580s love it. Let me know how I can help.

Well, I'm not so eager to build another, (unless on a Hansen PCB) since this one took 2 tries! The first time it didn't work at all, and I only got this one to work because I built it in stages, and even then I had to resolder a connection!

Always love resurrecting old threads! One question for the owners of various headphones, specially Sennheiser and Grados. I recently acquired my first good set of headphones, Sennhiesers HD-598 cans. I have to say that I love the sound when listening to jazz (Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Miles Davis) and live concerts of bands like Dave Matthews Band (the song #41 for the Chicago concert is awesome). Now, I mostly listen to rock (grunge: Nirvana, STP, Alice in Chains and newer bands like Audioslave, Incubus and Foo Fighters) and find them good, but not as impressive as with recordings with mostly acoustic instruments. Of course after reading Head-Fi for a couple of weeks I want to try some Grados for this. I'll probably buy the Alessandro's or Grado's SR80i. I am currently using as DAC and headphones amps the total bithead when listening from the ipod or ipad and the NuForce uDac2 when listening to the computer (Win 7 server or macbook unibody 13"). Now, in the interest having fun, would it be more, let say "smarter" or "efficient" to get the Grados or Alessandros to experiment with different kinds of music or should I invest my money in better amps? I've been interested in the Schitt Asgard for an SS amp or an Indeed tube amp (G2 I think). Of course, another thing would be just to save more money and get a Schiit Lyr.... I will probably get everything down the road, but I would like your recommendations on what to do first, another pair of cans or better amp / dac (considering that none of the headphones I've talk about require a lot of amplification). Thanks!
