With the 650/600 being discontinued and excluding the HD800 Sennheiser only have a few sets of cans that are any good imo.
The HD25-1, HD598 are good but the 4 series are underpowered and overall disappointing. The 2 series are ok, I had the 228 / 238 and creating a portable can that can't be driven by an mp3 player is not clever (and they sound meh- the vjays piss on them).
I really hope they step up, their IE8 is great but I hear that's soon to be discontinued as well.

If anyone has fallen from grace, it's akg. They are the only big box brand that doesn't have a "true" flagship. Remember the days of k240 600ohm models, k400/401/501/601s, k1000. Now they have the Q701. Really? I mean really?

OP, Where are you getting this info from?

The Sennheisser HD600/650 are still very popular and well regarded choices in the "mid to high-end" headphone market. I very much doubt they will be discontinuing these models.

The HD6x0 ARE being discontinued. Luckily, Skullcandy is planning a replacement with Sennheiser's blessing.

A variety of colors has been rumored.

What makes something a flagship?

When the HD650 was Sennheiser's flagship and the DT880 was beyerdynamic's flagship - AKG had a flagship - the K70*.

Then Sennheiser, beyer, Grado and Ultrasone decide to start charging £1k for dynamic headphone now all AKG has is some mid-priced effort... for selling dynamic headphones at the price they are worth...

If you don't like the K70*, that's your personal judgement. Many don't like the HD800, or the ED10, or the PS1000 as well - but why isn't the K70* AKG's "flagship"?

Only in the world of head-fi does the customer crawl on their knees to the manufacturers begging to be ripped off...
