Hi people,
i just bought with Buy it Now a pair os 580's which are supposed to be practically unused and like new for 30EUROS plus 4,70 shipping. She said she was selling them for a colleague. Do you people think this is was a fraud and i got them for cheap or just a good deal. Could they be NOT ORIGINAL but sennheiser copy?See for yourself and let me know what u think.

EUR30?? Doesn't that equal about $30?!?

You got a good deal, my friend!

They're not ripoffs--the pictures show the real thing. It's possible one of the drivers could be blown, but for EUR30, I would take the risk...

Well those Sennheiser drivers aren't particularly easy to blow, and the description says they're in "as new" and "fully working" condition.
The ridiculously low price (equals about 34$) sets off all alarm bells, but there really seems to be a good chance nothing's wrong with it. Considering he called them HO 580 the seller probably just had no idea what they are.

the person selling the headphones has only positive feedback but this time she said she sells for a colleague. Tommorow they should arrive. She sent them yesterday. I will post when i get them.

I bought them to listen to vinyl with my TD-150 thorens turntable which i am going to change a belt and put a new cartridge (Stanton 880S) through a kennwood amplifier (about 20 years old).
I hope I can get a decent sound and not disturb everyone with speakers.

True.. but as Sennheiser HD580s are open headphones, there will inevitably be some sound leakage. Although I haven't noticed as much sound leaking from Sennheisers as I have Grados, it's definately not closed.

However, it sure beats speakers

Congrats on a great purchase!

That's an excellent deal. The HD580s need some monster amplification and source to reach their full potential, but in the right environment they are my second recommendation for an all-purpose audiophile phone, the HD600 being number one.

Enjoy the sennheisers. They are one sweet phone.

Cheers,

I got them today tand spent the mornign listening to some well produced albums and songs and I have never listened to anything that sounds so good.
Right now I am listening to Come Away with me- Norah Jones and they sound sweet.
They are actually like new if as if noone had used them before (maybe noone did) and that was all 34,7 EUROS inclusive postage!
And I was thinking of buying the low end sonys md 180 or something for 20 EUROS but i decided i would spent more money to get something decent such as lowe end Sennheisers or AKG or ... and then i came across this auction at eBay read the reviews for those headphones on epinions.com and nobody said somthing bad about them.
Is it easy to tell any difference from the HD600.
Now that i have listened to the 580`s i can say for sure that I would give much more to get them. Even more than 200 EUROS. They will give me pure listening pleasure for years to come i hope.
I have only listened to Cds .Cant wait to listen to vinyl too.
Now I am worried about my ears. Do u think that extensive headphone listening can cause damage to the ears permanently. What is considered to be a strong volume and how can i measure it?

Hast du ein Glück, du Schuft.

Man, for 20 Euros that's one hell of a deal. And you're right about being willing to pay 200 Euros for them, Meier Audio sells them for 180 Euros.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go to the corner of the room and cry for not getting a deal like that.

Long periods of headphone listening at high volumes can, in fact, cause permanent hearing damage. Try to get an spl meter at a local store. Perhaps the internet might help you. iirc, its not a good idea to listen above 80 dB for long periods of time. 70-75 is a safer bet.

One question: my 580s came with a gold plated 1/8 to 1/4 adapter. Did the older one comes with nickel plated ones? Just a minor point, nothing to be worried about.

Awesome purchase, by the way. I love mine!

marios_mar...

...congrats on your great deal -- and a fine headphone!

It's hard to say which volume is harmful to your ears; it depends a lot on the music and the headphone. What's important is that there are no resonances and the frequency response is flat, so that no frequency or frequency band is excessively loud. Luckily the HD580/600 (which BTW are very similar in sound) offer a very smooth sound and a flat frequency response without any obvious humps, so you don't have to be too anxious. I for one don't listen very loud -- that's what I notice when I once switch to the speakers --, although it's quite loud in my impression. However, it's good to be prudent, and I guess this alone will already protect you against hearing damage anyway. As long as you're really feeling fine with the actual volume, it should be o.k.

Congratulations on your most excellent buy.
I like my 580's quite well, I am sure you will like yours even more as time goes by.
Get a Cardas cable when you can, you will notice the difference.

I would sell my 580's for 30 euros. But the shipping and handling is gonna be way high

Yeah, what you've gotten is a pair of the early (older) HD 580's. More recently manufactured HD 580's have gold plating instead of nickel plating.
