What frequencies does the veil cover and in which Senns?

Do these freq. include male and female voices?

I'll never understand what people mean by "veil"?

On the 600's there are times when the voices would seem very distant. With goods amplification this can be overcome some of the time but never all the time. This is the only thing I can think of that would be considered veil. The 650 has not had this problem when playing the same music.

This are difficult questions, especially since there's so much disagreement even over the existance of a 'veil', but could you give us a situation like "powered by X"? That's a biggie.

I don't really hear a veal so much as a hear a denseness to the sound that isn't present as much in most other phones. Also, unless you back the senns with an amp with a lot of power they can sound too laid back which can also give the impression of a veiled sound. An overly warm sounding components can also give this impression.

Personally I found the HD650 to have a denser sound than the HD600--too dense actually which is the main reason I decided to stick with the HD600.

Thats what I hear too.

The 650's are just right though.

Lol, you don't say

If people are saying that it is mostly masking voices then it would be centered around 1000kHz as that is where most of the energy of the human voice is.

If the veil covered the entire frequency range, technically, you'd still have a flat frequency response, and all you'd have to do is raise the volume.

On my 580's there was a noticable increase in clarity when I removed the padding that covers the drive units. There's a bit more glare with the pads removed, but the gain in clarity is worth it.

I don't understand the whole veil thing. My 580s sound plenty good to me. Of course, since I've never heard anything better, I wouldn't really know any better. Ignorance is bliss!

I think it's the mid area when we hear this veil thing mentioned, and imho blown out of proportion. It surely is noticable when compared to in-your-face popular phones but I believe there are many other good phones with slightly distant mids. The details or clarity or high freq extension of 580 are already good and not much complain about them.

I don't notice a veil w/ the HD650, granted they're said to be more "veil-free". Hell, almost anything running from a bad/unworthy source sounds veiled to me. I think people considered them so because they're used to a bright or forward sound. I went from RS1 to HD650 and did not find them veiled.
