Well, it is kind of offensive that Sennheiser, Beyer, etc. don't find a way to save Europeans money on their products. It feels like certain companies forgot where they began and don't know where they are.

Sennheiser doesn't even have an R&D team anymore, it seems like the person who made the HD820 just said "Just put some glass over the back and sell it for $400 more". How could they release such an expensive product without testing at all. Where are the audio engineers and scientists, Sennheiser?

I totally agree. I'm American, but with strong German heritage. It's a disgrace and definitely makes me think less of Sennheiser. At least they just made my choice between He4xx and HD6xx a lot easier.

We can understand you might appreciate synchronized sales timing. Different promotions are run at different times across our retail partner network, and it is up to each European retailer to run promotions when they please. It's always best to check directly with your favorite retailer.

A Drop HD8XX with a revised tuning would turn out much more successful than this.

After they dropped their European section I can't support drop. I can understand why European companies want to use drop, it's great to be able to get rid of tons of stuff quickly. I just find it offensive that locally produced gear is more expensive here than thousands of miles away and that this is supposed to be ok in a global economy.

If anybody is going to revise the 800 (again) it should be Sennheiser. And they should be soliciting the input of people in this audio community and elsewhere and maybe even including some of us in reviewing prototypes etc.

They already did. They replaced it with the 800S and charged almost 50% more depending on where or when you buy it. I don't think another 800 will happen.

I know that story. I was responding to your comment about an 8XX. Did you mean 8XX from the 820? I was thinking you meant another 800 mod... :D

No, I was indeed talking about a 8XX from the remaining 800 drivers with more natural timbre, fixing the upper mid dip and of course the Mount St.Heiser

Thank you for expressing your concerns, and giving us the opportunity to clarify some misunderstandings.
A team of audio engineers including Axel Grell worked to develop the HD 820 over the course of several years, with many revisions made along the way to find the best way to eliminate the "back wave" that reflects off of traditional closed-back headphones and creates the "cuppy sound," while also maintaining strong isolation that would provide a practical benefit over the HD 800S. Though Mr. Grell is now a consultant rather than the head of the audiophile team, we have many longtime audio engineers as well as other talented engineers who have joined in more recent years.
