Wow. I got these for portable use with my Creative Nomad Jukebox 3, and the Grado SR 60s lay them to waste. To be fair, the Senn's sound a bit better off of my pitiful home source, which doesn't make much sense. But, if i didn't know better, I'd be assuming the Senn's were STOCK phones. That's how cheap they sounded to my ears. In fact, the phones which came with the Jukebox give them a run for the money. And, before you throw the newbe accusation around, I do have the Grados to compare them to, at least. And they destroy the Senn's. Perhaps my pair are defective, or is the PX200 just a cheap, tiny sounding headphone?

Umm, you did break them in first didn't you? The px200 sounds a bit harsh and cheapish at first, with the typical closed-headphone sound of sound-in-a-can. Give them a while, they'll develop nicely.

Did you let them burn-in at all? I've read that these definitely need some burn in. Also, dod you get the fit right? I've heard they're a little picky with the placement to get the optimum sound. Thanks for the heads up though--Ive been reading about these and wanting to get a pair to go with my fixup.net SRF-S84 that's on the way-- now I just may have to stick with my beloved MX400's....

Try and let them burn-in first. But if you find you still don't like them it's alright too since I don't like them either

I wouldn't say they're like stock headphones but I think the MX500 earbuds sound a bit better than the PX200. I really think the PX200 will vary quite a bit in sound depending on how your ears around the earcanal, where the small and thin PX200 pads rest, are shaped. I think they just don't fit my ears and because of that don't sound that good.

I think we're in unanimous here. I was about to send my px200's back because of their tinny sound when someone else told me to break them in first. I did and everything about them came together. If yours don't, then something must be wrong. Grado SR-60's are really nice phones, but they aren't night and day compared to the px-200. No way a cheap and tinny sounding headphone by any standards.

grados are just too good to compare with the senn px100 and px200, beside the sr60 is more expensive. stop comparing your $15 mx400 with your $2000 stax.

but i like the px200 most for portable use. its not the best sound, but i love the light weight, well built, compact folding feature, comfortable earpad, and esoecially the closed features which reduce some noises. no portable at this price do all this. it have a laid back sound and dark... i also owned the px100 and i like that better sound wise. only complain is that i lack some bass.... and some highs arent well define as in the px100.... i notice that the px100 has a hole in the center when i take off the earpad. i wonder if i can add more bass if i make a small hole on my px200 also. quite risky.

Yeah, about the burning-in...they're burning in now. I hope my judgment was premature, eh? If not, it's not a huge deal, I can always send them back and get something else. They were going to be my portable phones...we'll see how it works out.

ok, first let me say that i LOVE my PX200's. just as much as my SR60's. listening to them right now, in fact.

however, these cans are the epitome of an aquired taste. the first time i listened to them, i thought they were crap. you really do just have to let them burn in, but after they are burned in, you may still not like them. they have an emphasized midrange which is something of a rarity in their class, and it can be taken as a blessing or a curse depending on your POV. this doesn't mean the bass is missing, but it's just not thrown at you. if you listen to the PX200's for awhile and then try to go back to anything in the portable koss line, the kosses sound unrefined and bloated. i find the PX200's to be supremely smooth with no fatigue, and they have the afore-mentioned balance of bass, midrange, and treble. the soundstage is a bit lacking, however.

as for the isolation, i find it to be acceptable. its DEFINITELY better than any portable, open can under $50, and it's a helluva lot better than my SR60's. last night, acually, i found out just how well they can isolate. i was using the computer for awhile, and when i took off the PX200's i found out that my hard drive had been roaring at an unsafe RPM for some time. it bombarded my ears when i first took em off and i was surprised at how well they block such sounds. it's even decent for a loud classroom. also, i love that they leak almost no sound. i prefer to keep my music private.

that's why i love my PX200's. and here's what i would do if i were you:

did you buy them from headroom? if so, make full use of the 30 day guarantee if you dont like them within a week of SERIOUS burning in. if you didn't get them from headroom, i'm assuming it's too late to return them since you've already opened them and have listened to em. if so, you can always sell em here for a fair price and pick up a pair of PX100's or KSC35's (the 35's DO rock, in case you haven't heard a pair).

one last thing and i'll stop rambling-- listen to a song that has strong midrange with the PX200's. the first time i listened to jonny lang's "good morning little schoolgirl" with these cans i was blown away. the bluesy electric guitar is awesome thru these cans.

here's hoping you like your PX200's

all really depends on how they fit on ur ears really. I rtied em a couple of days ago and they sounded OK but was lacking in oomph. until I pressed the whole cup onto my ear, then I heard the bass. their nice headphones but for me they dont stay in the place they should to get the best sound out of them.... I also tried the portapros for the first time that day as well.. all I can say is wow, Koss did a great job with them

Ah, I do plan to burn them in for a while. I got them from amazon, which lets me return them. And i'll try a song with strong midrange. If these don't work out, portapros might be my next pair.

They have improved after about five hours of burn-in. Enough for me to keep? Not sure yet...

Give them a dead minimum of 100 hours of constant break-in in which you first start the music, find a comfortable volume level, and then increase it a bit higher and let it play.

I don't own any PX series (100 or 200) but I found that both of them sounded very good. PX200s didn't sound closed at all. I auditioned these at headroom. They do lack in bottom end but they sound punchy and render everything smoothly.

Cheers,
Geek

I would say three things:

1) Burn-in -- they really do sound better after some use.

2) Placement -- if you get them to "fit" right on your ears, you'll get a good seal, and the bass will be much more solid. If you can't get them to fit right, they'll sound thin (and, well, bad).

3) Balance -- the PX 200 are actually quite balanced, especially for headphones of this price range, and you may or may not like that. They don't have the emphasized bass and upper-bass of headphones like the KSC-35/PortaPro (also favorites of mine), or the "up front" and far from neutral sound of the SR-60. So if you're looking for those kinds of sound, look elsewhere.

Same here. No bass unless I pressed the cups to my ears making my ears go closer to my head.

To me they sounded just a bit better than stock headphones.
The mx500s were so much better!
The Px100s are better than both of them...to my ears.

If you can't get the fit right with the px200s they are just crap.
If you can apparently they're very good portable closed HPs.
