Hi,

I do own a pair of Sennheiser Momentum V1 that I use when I need closed headphones at home(got P7 Wireless for portable atm).
I also have Philips X1 for open back gaming/music. I listen mostly to metal(black, death) and some acoustic.

Would the X00 Purpleheart be a decent upgrade from the Momentum for use at home with my Schiit Modi/Magni 2 uber-stack?

I have no chance of trying the Purpleheart and I love the sound(warm, rich and good low end) of my X1, but also like the sound of the Momentum but thinking that a larger headphone would be nice for using at home.

Anyone got both and can compare? Or got other suggestions?

The P7 are certainly better than the Momentum 1s on top of being wireless so unless you liked the warm midbass of the momentum you cou;d probably just sell that lol, and the X00 is an upgrade over both IMO. More fun than either but has terrific sub bass and retains the old Denons sound but fixing the treble immensely and bringing up the mids a bit so it doesn't sound so hollow. It is one of the only "closed" cans worth owning of the whole TH-900, TH-610/600/TH-X00/Denons/DT770, besides maybe the LCD-XC but that is of course debatable.

Hope this helps.

Ye, I use P7 Wireless when Im working/out walking etc. I just got myself a pair of Purplehearts(~300$ used with a Hifiman case and two pairs of extra HE-500 pads..)  and I think I love them, probably even more than my Philips X1... :)

Yeah I definitely love the P7s, $300 isn't bad at all, nice! Especially for the purplehearts, they look so unique and their sound is pretty addicting.

I really liked the W1000X, so it was cool to see some more wood backed cans get popularized and (IMO) even end the need for the Denon D-X000 series or the more expensive TH models. The 900s definitely have more clarity and sub bass details, and soundstage but are just too zingy in the treble and don't like the design for the price when these can be had and beat them in several areas(at least for pleasurable listening).

I do wonder how the Hifiman pads would sound on them as I've heard of that pad swap before. Im curious if people prefer the Hifiman pads and which ones at that.

Great score though, I can't think of many other closed backs(or semi closed) near that price that'd I'd rather have for overall entertainment movies, games, and actually enjoying music rather than analyzing as many like to.

Enjoy! :)
