Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and Wireless!
Apr 13, 2015 at 11:34 AM Post #1,441 of 3,671
Hi, I've been searching through this thread (and Google must be getting tired of my queries) to find an answer to my question with no luck.

I'm wondering if audio is supposed to sound horrible when using the microphone? This happens on all my devices and the headphones will say "Call ended" after I'm done accessing the microphone indicating some kind of call-mode. My Macbook tells me it is using the SCO codec when this happens. If I start skype or access the mic in any way it will switch from aptX to SCO and it sounds like an underwater speaker....

Is this a Bluetooth limitation, the Momentum, or something I can fix hardware/software-wise (BTD 800?) ?

Also I read it was possible to use the wired remote/mic from the wired version. Is this true? At least this could remedy my purchase as I use Skype etc. a lot. Anyone know of any shops that ship these internationally?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Same problems here.
I wish M2's had Backbeat Pro's connection.

No you have not. Maybe you don't know how bluetooth and aptx work

Hold on, I got "newbie status", I am allowed to be WRONG!!

Seriously, I didn't understand your answer. I had stated there is a difference when both source and receiver has aptx support and playing hi res audio..

I also, said, that I THINK aptx makes NO DIFFERENCE in playing mp3 files..

Don't know which one you have deemed wrong.. I would like to know, so I will know the correction...

Thanks..

I just got back from a short walk in my quiet, low traffic residential neighborhood.  I was wearing my M2's and I think I've experienced what others have reported.  With my iPhone 6 in my left pocket I would get skips in the music that would happen when I would turn my head quickly to check for traffic and infrequent skips just out of the blue.  It kind of broke the immersion of the music for me.
I'm kind of sad about this. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of exchanging for another pair but 5 notes is a lot of money to ignore and hold on to a potentially defective product.  I really love the comfort and sound and will mainly be using them at home though.  I may just keep them, I'll write a lengthy letter to Sennheiser and hopefully hold out for a new revision that they'll offer up...

Even though my M2s have been working correctly, I would welcome a revision model, or recall. It seems like the SQ is okay with the majority, it is the BT issues that have turned off a lot of people. And you are correct, 5 Large is really a lot for something, and for that kind of money, the item supposed to do its job flawlessly too.

Hoping there is a good ending for all involved. Also, I hope all the hp makers keep pushing the bluetooth window to one day equal wired.. Oh boy, that be something!!

We better patent an "audiophile air purification system" that creates a perfect air ionization state in a room in which audio bluetooth devices are used.

:)

As for bluetooth, I have owned the Beats Studio, Zik 2.0, Plantronics Backbeats, and now the Momentum Wireless.  The Momentums are my favorite sounding, but suffer so many dropouts compared to these other wireless headphones.  This includes sitting right next to the device for me at times.

Even worse, sometimes when streaming from my Macbook (so I can get aptx) and a call or text comes into the computer via Continuity in Yosemite the headphones will freak out and play this higher frequency horrendous static instead of music.  I have to completely disconnect and reconnect to get them working right again.  It not only is annoying, but it really HURTS my ears when this happens.

I have anywhere from 3 weeks to months with the above headphones above and I've had more problems with these Momentum 2.0 wireless in a week then I think I had with the others cumulative.  For Sennheiser to say this is part of bluetooth is really disappointing to hear because while the spirit of what they are saying is certainly true practical experience shows they don't even have bluetooth quality at a bare minimum acceptable level yet....and they are a long way away from their competitors.

Yup, there is a trick to wearing M2s, and having glasses.  I just happen to have some long nappy hair, and sometimes I put a du rag on.. So, anytime the glass feel uncomfortable, first I re position them, if that doesn't work, I put them outside of the du rag, then the headphones..  It works for me..

Plus, I am quite a sight too. Mid 70s, full long grey hair, du rag sometimes, headphones, cowboy boots, and jeans, and I be snapping fingers too. :D

☺☺☺

Forgot to mention that the selling of my M2s is UK only eBay ☺

Well said. I hope they do something. I don't have problems at home. I'm seriously considering returning this pair and getting the M2S wired. Just been to Selfridges, London, after work engagements. Nice headphone bar downstairs. That had most makes of headphones and various models, including BT headphones. Annoyingly, it was not possible to test BT connections. All wired. However, quick comparison using my phone suggests there is little to no difference between M2s (wired) and M2 wireless (wired). Other thoughts:

Parrot Zik 2.0 - distinctive looks, but too small for my head.
Akg - large and heavy.
B&0 H8s - not on listening bench, but behind glass. H6s nice, but quite dark sounding. Not as well put together as i thought they world be. Headband is fabric, not leather.
Monsters h'phones and Beats - did not try out
Audio Techica - only wired models stocked.

They had a pair of Sony MDR-1ABTs out on display for ludicrous price of £400. These are not supposed to be released in the UK until May, and are listed at £300. Grey import? Anyway, was disappointed in how plasticky the ear cups are, though comfort seems good. Leather pads not up to softness or quality of M2s, but lovely, soft headband. Sounded v similar to MDR-1A (which they also had), which is interesting. No way, again, to test BT.

Some way to demo BT headphones is needed, without travelling to a specialist shop.

Impressions where that the M2s were among the best of the travel headphones, in terms of comfort, look and sound, at least from those available. Hence, might get the wired version as I said.

Here is sennheiser's response to my query about the Bluetooth issues.

Hello Colin,

I received a response faster than I thought. Here is what was mentioned:

As long as the device that the Sennheiser headset is being connected to supports the appropriate Bluetooth version (usually 2.1 and EDR for Sennheiser products) or higher and the appropriate Bluetooth profiles (A2DP, HSP, HPF, AVRCP) there should be no connectivity issues.

Please ensure that the device is supporting the appropriate Bluetooth Version and Profile and make sure that the settings on the device that the headphones are being connected to are adjusted to recognize headphones/microphones (ie: on some devices the "Hands Free Profile" needs to be activated). NOTE: Sometimes an update will have occurred on the device that the headphones are being connected to and it requires the device to be rebooted (ie: turned completely off and then back on) before the headphones will connect.

If prompted for a password/PIN during the connection process the default number is "0000".

In a situation where the Bluetooth connection seems to get interrupted for no reason or the headphones had previously been connected to the device and were working and now the headphones will not connect to the device it may be that the Bluetooth signal has been corrupted. In this type of scenario try deleting/removing the Bluetooth connection from the device, then turn the headphones and device completely off, then turn the device on and then pair the headphones

If the Bluetooth connection is not being disrupted and you are having audio drops or lags it could be the transmitting device or the audio stream that is causing the issue so you would need to eliminate these as being potential causes of the issue.

To eliminate the audio stream as the issue you would need to try a different audio stream. For example if the issue is happening on YouTube then try a different audio stream. If the issue is resolved on the other audio stream then that indicates that the original audio stream (ie: YouTube) was the cause of the issue. If the issue continues that would indicate that the audio stream is not the issue but something else is causing the issue.

To determine if the device is the issue you would need to connect to a different device. For example if the issue happens on an iPhone but doesn't happen on a computer that would indicate that the iPhone is the cause of the issue.

Bluetooth is a wireless signal and being a wireless it is possible that you are getting hits of disruption from an outside source. A hit of disruption from an external source could cause a momentary lag/interruption like you are describing but not completely stop the Bluetooth signal. Having an interruption from an external source is the nature of wireless and if this is the cause of the issue there may be no way to remove the issue unless you can eliminate the external interruption.

If the issue happens on multiple devices and multiple audio streams that could indicate that there could be an issue with the headphones and hence you would need to send them in for evaluation.

Have a great day

Now that my M2s BTs in Ivory are being sold due to discomfort, I'm wondering what else is there really that I can go for Zik 2.0? Is there anything else I should try? Cheers

That purification system would be nice, I am sure...

Sorry  you M2s are not working out, and IMO, this is really phenomenal.

First, you got  peeps like me that have NO problems, and the fact, that Sennheiser has sold out, and peeps are standing in line to chunk the full $500 for these. Yet, people are having problems.

IMO, in order for the above to happen, there must have been some defective units that were sold. to some unlucky buyers. And some of the buyers who return for another one, got another defective unit. That is the only way I can explain this phenomena!! People are not going to spend $500 for a product that doesn't work. A product that doesn't work, would not sell out, and create a long back order..Just my observation..

I will admit, that my opinions were mostly around the SQ of the M2s, which almost everyone agrees is real good. So, the satisfied people most likely are not subject to the interference areas like others, hence the praise for these headphones..

Just trying to find a reason how some people can return 3 or 4 times and experience a problem each time, where others are breaking their necks to pay $500 for these headphones.. Something is really wrong with that picture..

Well I didn't expect to have issues being in my relatively small city, I wasn't even using them in town. There should be no issues with outside interference that cause such an issue.
I encourage everyone with these hp's to take a walk with them and report back.
