Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and Wireless!

Let us know which one you keep and why!

It's a pity because the 1000xm3 won't arrive. Somebody has stolen the headphones in the shipping company and it has arrived a empty broken box. It's the first time it happens to me.

This weekend I will probably do a comparison with the headphones I have to decide what to do with them.

My first impression is that the m2 wireless has bad noise cancellation and low sound volume. The sound quality in wireless mode is worse than the wired m2, like more boomy and less detail overall. I liked a lot the wired m2 but not much the m2w. The wired are also more comfortable, with more room to my ears and a best little padding headband.

Compared with bose qc35 ii, the bose are much more comfortable and I like more it's sound (more neutral), but I have to make more tests. The noise cancelling is far better in Bose's.

Bluetooth range looks longer in the m2w than in bose

The buttons on the m2w aren't the best, one button for 3 actions, easier and with better feeling in the bose

The sony 1000x, i remember them more like bose, but less comfortable and worse manufacturing quality.

Conclusion at this moment:
-comfort: bose>m2>m2w
-Sound: m2>bose>m2w
-buttons: bose>m2w

The sound quality test may not be completely fair because the dac and amp into the v30 is better than included in wireless headphones (IMHO). M2w with aptx and bose with AAC.

When I test all, I am going to edit this.

Pd: sorry for my bad english

I have had mine since the first revision, I didnt have the bluetooth issues everyone was having at the time, but had other issues, so got them replaced with the new version onboard. I still listen to them a lot, and still love them for portable. I dont use them at home at all in favor of either my HD700s or HE400S.

The ANC is not poor on these at all. They do exactly as designed. They were never intended to eliminate all noises. They only cut low frequency hums like bus and train, and plane noises. They do also cut a very narrow band in the highs. This is all (used to be) explained on the Momentum 2.0 part of Sennheiser site. So you are able to hear certain frequencies (human voices, tires screeching, etc...) by design. Hope this helps those that think ANC is poorly implemented on these.

I dont find these analytical enough for hearing the difference between AptX and AptX-HD for instance. From the start, I have found these more fun sounding than accurate, though not too shabby at clarity (if having a bit of the Sennheiser veil). So, I love them for what they are, and see no need to update to the 3, because even with newer codecs, i still see them as more fun sounding. If i want accurate, i will just use my other cans.

About a month ago I ordered the Momentum 3 ear-pads to replace the original pads on my Momentum 2 wired, for better comfort, because the M3 pads are significantly larger.
I had this in mind since M3 were released, and recently the pads are available as spares. I was very excited to order and mount the new pads but ultimately I was disappointed with the result :frowning2:

Long story short: I do not recommend the replacement because the sound is affected greatly.

The fit of the M3 pads on the M2 is excellent, the comfort is much, much better. The process of replacing the pads is very easy especially if you have done this before. Watch the videos on youtube.

Sadly the sound is nowhere near what it was with the original ear-pads. The bass is not as punchy and more loose and flabby and in less quantity, the lower mids are missing so all the body in vocals is gone, the highs are bordering sibilance and are harsh, the tonality has changed a lot, they are resonant, thin and distant sounding. I knew different pads can change sound, but I didn't expect this drastic change. It is clear to me that the larger cups don't go well with tuning of the Momentum 2, and I cannot use them. But who knows, others might like this sound.

I was so upset that I didn't want to post anything here, but I will do - just so you are aware of the result if you have any plans to do this. And I made a lot of photos, so I will post them too just for reference (size differences and so on). The M3 pads come with plastic rings that you take off and then they mount as the originals. There are videos on youtube.

Earpads have a huge effect on sound, it's true. It's a little less critical on an open-back passive pair, but a closed back with noise cancellation is going to be heavily affected by the size/material of the earcups.

Can you measure the internal dimensions of the M3 earpads please?

Apologies if this has been covered before.

I have large/long ears, and the original Mometum Wireless had too small earpads for me.

Sony XM also don't fit

Bose QC25 did, and I currently use the Definitive Technology Symphony 1 (now discontinued) - which have large earpads. But looking for a replacement.

Cheers!

Sorry for the late reply. I see you got the dimensions in the M3 thread, so I won't measure them :)

As I posted, they are much confier for me but I won't use them with my M2s.
I'll keep the new M3 pads and maybe sometime in the future I'll buy an used M3 pair and put my earpads on :p

Hello,

I have been really happy with my M2s for over 4 years now but for a while I have needed a replacement for the second pair of ear pads I’m already using. Do you know some good replacement ear pads which I can use?

The long story is that because the original replacement is sold out everywhere I first bought a cheap one on Amazon. They were not as comfortable as the original ones and the sound was really bad so I asked the Sennheiser service for help. They told me in November that I should check the availability of the original replacement pads on their homepage regularly... Now, two months later, nothing happened on their homepage so I searched again and found something on Audio Sanctuary. They write on their page for the M3 replacement ear pads that these are also a replacement for the ear pads of the M2s and so I bought them. After I tried them the first time I was disappointed and searched again.

That was the point at which I came across this beautiful forum and this perfect fitting thread.

As @KopaneDePooj mentioned the replacement ear pads for the M3s fit really good and they are more comfortable then the original ones. But the audio quality is not so good. The problem is that Sennheiser has spoiled me so much that I can't and don’t want to cope, with the poorer audio quality.

It would be really nice if someone has some good experience with available replacement ear pads and could let me know.

Keep safe!
J0hn

Thanks for sharing!

I wonder if these are genuine leather like the OG ones were?! Though, I have had mine since the beginning, and they are still in pristine shape.
I just got my pair yesterday. They are an exact match size-wise. The orignial ones' inner leather lining started disintegrating and turning into some kind gunk about a year ago. I hope it doesn't happen with the new ones. To be fair, they were alredy 4 years old and I drove them daily.

Same story with OG pads on mine. Got the official Senn replacement pads. Spent an hour sweating and cursing trying to install them. Whoever designed this replacement mechanism with such margins deserves a special place in hell.
Really good traveling HPs though, and very durable.

Sorry to hear that. I must be really lucky then. Not only are my v2.0 pads still pristine, but so also are my OG Momentum pads (2012).

The inner leather is sadly not real leather like the outer ring. Mine are peeling but cannot find any replacement, they are too old. Does anyone know if the M3 pads are also pleather inside? Sennheiser seem to be selling them as replacement for M2 despite being larger.
