Let’s have some fun checking out the thought behind these playlist picks! You may notice that many of these tracks have a “Space” theme going on here, as a nod to the subtle silver and gold speckles on the IE 300.
The IE 300 is indeed “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” as the fresh new $299 Sennheiser In Ear Headphone. The IE 300 has the low end grunt to make you ready to tap your toes, while at 0:22 the song has some nice cymbal hits to show a treble response that is clear yet smooth and not fatiguing. RIP Daft Punk, thank you for the memories!
“Stars” is a magical track worthy of adding to all headphone test playlists... there is high potential for shivers up your spine here, with massive soundstage holding an aloof electric piano and richly textured cello work, as well as moments so realistic you might need to check out the window to make sure there isn’t something going on outside!
“Moon Light On Spring River” from Zhao Cong again showcases a wonderful depth with a mandolin played delicately up on stage, solo and accompanied by a full orchestra, as well as a HUGE bass drum pounding away that will wash over you pleasantly.
Ok, so diamonds aren’t exactly stars, but “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” by Paul Simon is another amazing test staple, featuring tenor lead and rich baritone chorus vocals at the beginning, and just a pleasant, hyper well produced track.
Another impeccable track, this time transporting you to a quietly bustling restaurant in New York City, 1961, “Alice in Wonderland (Take 2 / Live at the village Vanguard)” is one of the greatest jazz sessions of all time.
OK! Now let’s try some electronic dance music! “Carefree (I am a Star)” brings a midbass beat sure to get you moving and feeling positive
“Recuerdo (Headphone Mix)” may not be star themed, but this beautiful Puerto Rican track is not to be missed, as it was specially mixed for headphones. Ricky Martin and Carla Morrison’s velvety voices will float and swim dreamily through your head throughout the song.
Ready for something else that sparkles? “Fireworks” by Purple Disco Machine, Moss Kena, and The Knocks is a brand new track for 2021, and expresses what we’re all looking forward to.
“Daydreaming” is what you’ll be doing while listening to this next track by Radiohead, showcasing the band’s typical layering of multiple sounds at once and showing that the IE 300 keeps them all distinct.
As a tenth track, “La Luna (binaural)” is another gift for people that would like to review or test headphones, or just kick back with a three dimensional track recorded using a binaural head microphone. Close your eyes and be transported in front of the stage for a 3-piece acoustic performance.
