Sennheiser HD820

I do not think so.
If I remember correctly it is possible to put the pads of the HD820 on the HD800, but not the other way around.
The Dekoni pads, on the other hand, work on both headphones, but - in my opinion - distort the sound of the HD800. I tried them for a while, but then I preferred to put the originals back.

That’s what I’m trying to do. 820 pads on 800s to add comfort and clamp force.

Hey guys so I heard the HD820 a while ago and like many of you here didn’t agree with what a lot of the reviewers were hearing. These things sounded very smooth and organic with a wide soundstage and great detail. They actually sounded a touch wet if that makes sense. I really enjoyed them for hip hop. I currently have the HEKv1 which is the warmest of all 3 but I think I’ll prefer the 820s and will put them up for sale. For those of you who have heard either V1 or V2 of the HEK, what sounded more detailed to you compared to the 820s?

Also interested in this. Was planning to get HD800s as an endgame, but now think I could probably go up in price and get HD820 but no idea if there are better options at ~$1700

Anyone tried dekoni fenstrated on these? Seems like they cut down the bass slightly and liven up the mids a bit which is what I could use

i could see them being bad on the hd800/800s but the 820 has quite a bit different frequency especially in the bass- so wondering if anyone had impressions on the 820 rather than the 800

Plenty of options, whether they are better is subjective and your decision to make. What sound signature and qualities are you looking for?

I noticed one of these for sale in the classifieds, I enjoy the HD800S a lot but am concerned that the 820 is going to alter the sound signature too much. FWIW I also have Focal Stellia, so would only be interested in the 820 if it was to bring something new to the table.

Every now and then I go back to this thread to listen to other users' opinions and still I don't understand how they can judge the hd820 so badly.
I have had it in the past and due to some shortcomings regarding the use in portability I had to give it away.
I had in my hands many closed TOTLs, stellia, 9200, z1r, veritè closed, MDR R10.
The old sony in my opinion is unattainable but the 820 in the soundstage sector is the one to which it comes closest.Simply the r10 in addition to being slightly wider horizontally is definitely more three-dimensional.
I know well that among the characteristics of a headset there is not only the soundstage.
Even low, medium, high ... to me the 820 has never disappointed; of all the locks I can say that it is the most transparent and crystalline there is, not the most natural; the most neutral.
I think this bad reputation comes from the fact that people have not found the right synergy, have not given them time to run in (I think the 820 requires a lot of running in) and that they have used it with its classic ofc (which does disgust)
For me it remains a great headset; Some flaws on comfort, excellent to wear but the sound changes according to the angle, which is not exactly the best

Soundstage is the biggest thing compared to the Stellia that it brings to the table. Stellia has the edge in details. I tried both and overall I went with the 820. It was just a more enjoyable listen.

Unfortunately it seems very user dependent. Many go on about the odd tonality and how far it diverges from the 800S. Others like me find the overall sound very similar, with improved bass quantity and further tamed treble and ultimately a more full sound. My first exposure to it, and the reason I ended up buying it, was at a Sennheiser store where they had it set up from the 660S to 800, 800S, and 820 on their HDV820 amp. The 800S was clearly more enjoyable than the 800 with more bass and tamed treble, and to my ears the 820 only improved that further and was clearly the most enjoyable. In the 3 years since I've mostly listened to ZMFs, which are warmer and more full bodied. During that time I bought an 800 SDR and eventually gave up on it because the treble was just too much and it felt thin despite overall still being quite impressive, especially on a good tube amp. I still love the 820 as a nice difference from my ZMFs, feeling more airy and less full in comparison to them, and they're more comfortable and fit me much better than the 800. The sound also seems very dependent on fit, with those fitting loosely not hearing the improved bass and perhaps hearing other oddities because of that. For me, it's one I can't imagine getting rid of and the ones in the classifieds have struck me as great deals.
