The HD820 has been officially announced at CES...

Current price is set to be €2,399 in Europe and $2,399.95 in the US with its release to be sometime during the beginning summer of 2018.

The cover material on top of the driver is made of glass. Sennheiser claims the glass cover is designed in a way to reduce resonance by redirecting the reflected sound waves into a special absorber chamber, similar to the IE800 and HD800S I'd assume.

It comes with a new set of earpad made of if synthetic leather and microfiber. It also comes with Pentaconn connector cable too instead of just an 4 pin XLR.

Damn, they really read our discussion about the pricing and set the msrp accordingly lol

It looks like a semi closed, which is a good thing imo...

Interesting to see how they compare to the 1600€ HD800S. I know that the soundstage will be cut off, but by how much?

Also other than closed back - design. is the sound-quality better considering the extra 800€? Or is this just common practice "Because we can"

This may finally be the headphone to upgrade from Fostex TH-610s... I just want HD800S mids and highs with Fostex TH900 bass.

Why??? We already waited half a year for announcement and now we will have to wait another half a year for actual release? Too much of waiting time. Why they cannot announce and release it at the same day, like other companies, for example Focal.

maybe just to leave you some time to cool your anger of the price and to persuade yourself it's reasonable.
