Thanks for that link, i might give these a try, the connections would definitely be more secure that way. The Yamaha is a classic; powerful, rich and smooth with every tone control options you can imagine. I love it.

No problem. There is a CR-2020 locally for sale but it's $1,720 (Canadian). That's pretty expensive for me. I'd have to sell off my other headphone amps to get that.

That's way too much. I bought mine for $400 (Canadian) 10 years ago.
I would just get a Marantz receiver (from the early to mid 2000s) they go for dirt cheap or perhaps a smaller integrated amp like a used Bryston, Simaudio, Nad, etc.

I'm looking for a DAC for the HD800S. Do you have suggestions? Max 2000€. I have unfortunately NO IDEA what to try.

What about the Chord Hugo 2 or Copland DAC 215?

Depends on what you're looking for in a DAC. I would like to try a Luxman DA-250/DA-06 > P750u > 800S chain to see if it's more refined than my current rig. Never heard it, could be 10x better than what I have now but no I2S though so I wouldn't take it home with me.

If you want smooth and easy-going I can recommend the DirectStream from PS Audio, but I'm not sure how available they are outside the US (I say this because of the euro for price, correct me if I'm wrong) . I use the Jr. on Sunlight firmware and it sounds great through the HDV 820 > 800S chain. The DS goes for a good price these days, but might be a little difficult to find one in 230v for $2k EUR.

What about the Sennheiser HDV 820, opinions?

I like the headphone amp section a lot. I'm a little less enthusiastic about the DAC section. AES input was dropped, gain switch only on SE inputs. The DAC can be bypassed altogether...which may or may not ruin the purpose of the HDV 820. It's a safe option, would be a good baseline to try the 800S with and see what you like/don't like about the setup. Some like it a lot, some find it dull, etc. Main issue I have (and everyone else has apparently) with it is the retail price... 2399 euros could go towards one of those Luxman products, like a P750u . Worth considering at around half of retail cost or less, I just wouldn't pay full retail when there are many, many more options now than there were in 2017.

Just listening to Crossroads: Revisited directly from the CD through my BF2 and Lyr 3 with my HD800S. It's a live album so the 800S reproduce it really well. But I just cannot get over comfort (or lack of) with these headphones. Yes they are light which is great. However the lack of clamp and slim pads (and I'm using aftermarket Geekria pads) means unless I keep my head pretty still the 800S can shift a bit on my head. If I look down they can pretty easily fall off my head. Seems like a big oversight for such an expensive headphone. So I switched back to my trusty HD6XX. My most comfortable headphone. Even compared to my Aeolus with the pilot pad.

I bought one of these for almost list cost from when these 75th anniversary was released and it finally arrived today. I used to own a regular HD800S, but sold it and recently wanted to buy one of these again since I had dumped a couple thousand into amps and sources and wanted to try the HD800S again. When I previously owned these, I did not have a tube amp. This headphone sounds so much more amazing than when I only used to have a THX amp. I'm so glad I bought this back, and this time, I'm pretty sure it's not going away anytime soon.

Anyone heard the

FELIKS AUDIO EUFORIA 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

With HD800S? How's the synergy? Compared to other tube amps?

Or Woo audio WA2 or WA22

Feel free to name drop tubeamp recommendations.

Bought the Ferrum Oor + Hypsos SS amp and it does not pair well imo. To bright and dry and lacks bass imo.

I got 6SN7 to dual 6J5 adapter in to run two Ken Rad 12J5s, and C3G to EL32 adapters that allow me to use two Mullard 6J7s, two Winged C 6H5Cs, and also two GE 6AS7s.
