Also consider vintage receivers; they usually have higher output impedance and the headphone output is tapped directly in the output transformer. Plenty of 'rich & smooth' power.

800S and the Z1R

My 800S's arrived today to go with my Z1R's and Focal Clear's. Just giving the 800S a whirl now and early impressions are that they seem to compliment each other quite well (which was my hope!). Driving them through my TA-ZH1ES and they sound superb so far!! Soundstage is amazing from the first few tracks I've thrown at them.

EU and UK Head-Fi-ers, what are some good online shops to track for sales of the 800S brand new? The Sennheiser.[EU Country Name] always has it at full price. It seems silly that the U.S. crowd gets it for cheaper than we do in Europe given Sennheiser is a German brand.

Thanks!
It seems all the authorized dealers are selling them at MSRP.

I have had seen them sold cheaper at non official physical stores a few months ago while I was out and about in London, but I wouldn't take the risk personally.

Maybe try heading to Sennheiser official stores in Germany or something, I bought mine there with a decent discount.

The latter.

When it's a return they get new pads (always) if the rest is MINT, else it's listed as C Stock.

Aha, so they are returns but in MINT condition, not in need of repairs. And they are tested, which suggests they made sure the return was not done because of a faulty driver, etc.

It can be both. If not MINT then it's C. In all cases (B and C) pads are new and the headphone has gone the same extensive QA as every other headphone.

I am sure they are a great compliment to one another. You are very lucky to have both so enjoy them.

Well they are here and plugged in already.
First off i must say they are a joy to have on your head, light and very comfortable.
Sound wise, right out the box they sound so much more detailed, ok bass weight is less but the extra detail and space is fantastic, obviously got to burn in yet and will put them on a burn in programme my rossini can do, as got to go back to work

And... It happened. Ever since november last year, when I had an opportunity to listen to HD800S, they were constantly on my mind. The temptation was irresistable so now I've got one but... I have the newer version with 4,4mm balanced cable which is quite a bummer. For now I think I will have to somehow find a 4,4->XLR adapter but there is also a plan to get a better cable for them. I wonder do you have any experience with Norne Audio? :) Saw quite a few pics of HD800S paired with Norne cable but I wonder what changes do they make. :)
