This thread is dedicated to discussion impressions of the new Sennheiser HD800 S. 
There was a thread called Sennheiser HD800 S Unveiled! which contains some early impressions. http://www.head-fi.org/forum/newestpost/785577  
But the purpose of that thread, to share anticipatory speculations on the coming release has outlived its usefulness, since the headphone is now out and in people's hands. I will try to keep track of the interesting impressions so far at the top of the thread. From here and maybe elsewhere on the web. So please put links to anything you find of interest in the thread and I will collect them up top.

Curious why a new thread? hd800S unveiled is like a great name for it. Canada for example has not received the S yet. Course i will hang anywhere and when I receive my S I will leave impressions and th900 comparisons here or under unveiled? I guess impressions is it!

This way I can put pointers to helpful reviews, tips amp/dac pairings at the top. That way people won't have to read the whole thread top get the gist. Also, it is better categorized in the High End Audio section, isn't it? Look forward to hearing your impressions when you get the S.

Had a chance to audition those in a shop .. very positive impressions. I was quite unhappy about the price initially, especially when they were going 'surely' for $1799. At the current price and compared with the other new offerings (e.g. hfman who sells a 400i with oval cups for $1799), Sennheiser almost deserves praise .. you even get an extra $400 value (yeah sure) balanced cable

And if anyone was still wondering if they took care of that treble peak, the news are very good! I have a pretty serious highs sensitivity which makes my ears fool-proof radars for any treble peaks. After max 20min with the old hd800 I wanted to throw them out of the window because they did put needles in my head. Tested the new 800S for 2-3 hours and all good.
May post some extra impressions later.

I also had chance to demo these headphones last weekend for a few hours. Also very impressed, and concur with @prot that the treble peak is completely vanquished. I was always a fan of the original HD800, but the hot treble put me off buying them. With the S, every track I played, from a wide variety of genres, was reproduced with an incredibly smooth top end, and not at the obvious cost of resolution or detail to my ears.
 
Going to demo them again this weekend... wallet beware

I can't do it automatically, but if there any new interesting impressions over there I can put links at the top. But that thread has been getting more and more silly. They aren't even discussing anything to do with the HD800 S most of the time.
