HD800 sound gorgeous with tube amps. I have both 300b and KT88 amps. I have also ordered the HD800S because it's on special. :)
It seems to be on Special all over AU and NZ. Just did the same and it’s only my 6th pair. Might sound different then the last five.

It's funny you're on your 6th pair. What happen to the other 5? :)
All sold over time and for sentimental reasons bought the HD800S again and again. Also, I am German and have to be loyal to the brand especially when living in the diaspora aka NZ.
And it’s a very good headphone.

Invest in a k50 antipodes audio music server while you are there.

Had an older Antipodes server and met Mark once many years ago. Still have his XLR interconnects. Good stuff.

With my tube amp, the HD800S straight out of the box sound superb. Signature wide soundstage. However I'll reserve further comments till I get more hours into it. Bought it when they had the special of $400 less new price. I have the original HD800 as well so I will be able to compare.

We will be happy to read your comparison

That's the lesson I learned as well. Never sell the HD800S as you will only buy it again. I've sold and bought it again twice already. My 2021 pair will never be sold (hopefully). It's just a classic now

I did the same thing. I’ve bought them 3 times and used them as trade bait to try other headphones each time. It wasn’t because they don’t sound good, they do. It was because they were the only headphone I was willing to sacrifice at that time.

I have sold HD800 and then HD800S and now I am in a honeymoon with the HD8XX not regretting that I sold the other two!
You evil man... don't make me add more HD800 variants to my collection! :sob: LOL

*on a side note you are about 500 days away from re-buying the HD800S... the countdown starts ROFL :joy: (everyone on Head-Fi is like 500 to 1000 days away from buying the HD800S... it is the law of the Head Fi universe... the only known cure is to just constantly own the HD800S until you die)

To my embarrassment I have to confess that I also owned the Lcd4 and Utopia three times. No urge to buy them again, though. Maybe the Utopia…
