Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

You misunderstood :) I was referring to the overall sennheiser signature which is true for both ie800 and 660s and agrees with mojo, you know you are listening to a sennheiser product with both.As far as everything else i agree, the ie800 has noticeably more treble extension, air, better bass quality as well as clarity, but it is not a bright iem, slightly on the warm side it is just that Hd660S are noticeably warm.HD660S has the thicker mids though.

Yup, you are right.
But to be IE800 still on the bright side but not overly bright.

I would say IE800 is dark bright. Darkish sennheiser sonic signature, but still bright somehow. But IE800 is too sibilant. Eventually sold it.
That's the reason I sold it too. :frowning2:

T............
Yep the Canadian price leaves much to be desired, unfortunately $679 Canadian is right in line with the current exchange rate at $495 US, plus or minus a dollar or two, so nothing changing in that regard anytime soon: (
Well Amazon.ca just made the 660S pricing a little more attractive...(just over $400 US)....so couldn't resist....: )....but back-ordered for a few weeks...which is fine by me.

You will not regret I think. After 3 weeks of only using the HD660S my beloved SONY cans are at risk of getting sold.... If you give the HD660S the needed time it could be an addictive giant killer.

I still have mine. Dark bright is a hard to understand term though.

Maybe an alternative way to describe it is possessing a moderately u-shaped FR? The IE 800 S has been re-tuned with slightly more mids and a more linear FR.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Does make the HD660 a much more reasonable purchase. Being Sennheiser, these might actually hit some local store fronts here in Calgary sometime soon. I'd like to put them up against my beloved 600's before buying.

Hello fellow HD660S owners. I received mine on Monday and using it with a new iDSD BL that I also picked up this week. So everything is new. These two items represent the post-purge scale up and this time I will be reasonable in the hobby .

Like many of you, I've owned HD600/HD650/HD800/HD800S and each one a couple times over. Crazy of course. HD800S was my favorite. Overall, I like the HD660 more than HD600 or HD650 for various subjective reasons that I won't get into because then I'll have to rely on foggy memories. However, I wonder if the amp section of the iDSD BL is a little too warm for this headphone or maybe I just need to let everything settle mentally and mechanically. Any other BL users have the same combo? I primarily listen to jazz followed by hip hop, folk, rock, etc. I was thinking of pairing the DAC of the BL with a more neutral amp or OTL tube amp might be a good way to go for additional sparkle and transparency. Synergy cannot override everything, but I do think the proper amp can bring out some of the best qualities of the headphone.

No rush to go out and buy anything until I have fully vetted my current set up. However, after the holidays I could be open to trying the Jotenheim or Valhalla 2. My favorite amp to date is the MicroZOTL2.0-S, but I am currently trying not to spend more than $500 on an amp. I do still need to go through this thread, but I noticed the search option is still not available which is a bummer. I took a sort of break from head-fi after the big website change and I guess there are still improvements being made.

I like some of the suggestions in the past couple pages for HE-560 and HD700. Those would be fun to try at current used prices and see how they manage to complement the HD660.

@WNBC how does the HD660S compare to the Ypsilon and SR225e builds that you have? Bruce (fleasbaby) does some great work so I can imagine that the Ypsilon and SR225e are pretty great looking & sounding.

Agree that the MicroZOTL2 is a great amp, had one for a time:

Will report back in a couple days when I get some more time in with the HD660S + BL. I briefly tried the BL + Ypsilon. Pretty good resolution, transparency and clarity with that pairing. Bass response wasn't too shabby either. Agreed, fleasbaby headphones rock.
