Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?
Oct 26, 2017 at 6:06 AM Post #511 of 9,585
Lucky you. No massdrop deals for me.... Taxes would kill the deal and the hd6xx woupd probably get stick in customs and i would havê to pay to release them. Portugal sucks in that regard....

But Being a closed back was there much more resonance on the momentum bass and it went much lower than on the hd650? I AM fine with highs of both momentum 1.0 and 2.0....

Se talked quite a bit about thia already but the hd650 sounds much more Fuller than the hd600? Is it much more Boring? I lile the hd600 highs and mids and their resolution. I wanted a bit Fuller sound bit at the same time i like how eletric guitars sound powerfull on the hd600 and i dont want to vive that up.

I was really set on buying the hd650 last week but now i think i should wait for a couple more reviews. The hd660s só far seema to be a blebd of the hd650s bass (yet perfected) with the more engaging highs and mida of the hd600 and more resolution. Seems awesome....
Momentums are only mid-bass, both the HD600 and HD650 have better bass that goes lower. I've sold my HD600 due to a small treble peak that bothered me at times and replaced it with a Ypsilon S1 build, a friend who bought the HD600 took one listen of the Ypsilon and quickly sold the HD600 also. I had though of getting another HD600 in the future but after hearing the Ypsilon I don't see my self getting another HD600. What got me reading about the HD660s was the suggestion that it could be a modified HD700 driver, reviews of the HD660s looks like it corrects some of the HD650 short comings but since I'm one that would take a HD700 over the HD600/650 I'm hoping the HD660s is a blend of the HD700 sound stage and bass with the mids of the HD650 and highs between the HD700 and HD650

Wich had more midbass, the 600 or the 650?

I did some EDM tracks tonight, see my post # 489
One of my complaints with the 650s was that the bass was a soft and slow, and they could sound muddy - especially with some EDM. In this regard I liked headphones like the DT1990 and T5p.2, but their treble could be a bit harsh. The 660s are quite an improvement over the 650s. The bass is much faster, and they maintain good separation with very dense music. Sub bass is also there - I can hear it in the music, and with AudioCheck's files I can hear bass a bit below 20Hz. I would say that they are actually a pretty good open-back for EDM. They maintain the balanced response of the 650, but they sound faster and less muddled which make them suitable for more types of music.

I've had the 660 since Monday. Sorry, I haven't owned or heard the HD600. I have owned the X1 and X2, but have sold both. From memory they were quite fun sounding, but not particularly detailed, and not so good when there's a lot going on in the music. I would prefer the 660.

Edm or metal are better on the hd660s than on the 650? Wich punches harder and goes lower?

Wich sounds fuller overall?

Would you say the diference in sound quality and resolution is very noticeable? Stupid to buy the hd650 now?

Only saw this now.... :)

Thank you very much. Sorry if the tracks were not to tour liking.... :D

The bass hitted much harder and had a bit more rumble (went lower) on the hd660? The 650 were very far behind? Wich felt Fuller, more fun, engaging and more energetic?

Now that you got your hands "dirty" just one more favor.... Rock and metal.... Lets try fast and dirty stuff to see wich feels crisper on the guitars, with more resolution and wich is gáster and overall more engaging....

If you can of try some of these...

Artic monkeys "view from the afternoon", " this house is a Circus" or "brianstorm"

Rage against the machine "testify", " killing in the name"

Royal blood "hook, line, sinker" or "blood hands"

The amazons "black magic"

Highly suspect "serotonia" & "little one"

On the sofrer but still quicker side....

Two door cinema club " cigarettes in the theatre", "undercover Martin'

Sundara karma "loveblood"

Someone mentioned drum n bass and bass as well (high contrast) só you can try this as well...

Camo & crooked "all fall down" Fred V & Grafix remix

Dimension "generator"

Nero "guilt"

Chase & status "end credits"

Once again if you dont mine of course.

Thank you

Probably yes. It is buying history. The HD660S is the future. Listen to you inner voice, you know?
And sorry no Metal here, only Deep Purple Made in Japan. That sounds better on the HD660S than on the HD650. Bass is faster and cleaner plus better details across the board.

The difference is sound is very noticeable to me. As was said earlier in the thread, it isn't just about the frequency response, as they are quite similar between the 650 and 660. The 660 has much faster bass, so even if it doesn't go deeper it sounds like it hits harder.

The 660 doesn't try to give the illusion of more detail be accentuating the treble. They just maintain much better composure and separation across the whole frequency spectrum; the bass sounds faster and tighter and they sound less muddled, so you can follow what's going on in the music.
