Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I would keep the hd600's for now even if the hd660 blows them away the resale on hd600 is at best $175 US after shipping and or eBay fees and for that amount it's better to have them around for comparison. I think the best case scenario is that the hd660's are just flat out better than the hd600/650/700 and sennheiser just discontinues all three.

I can get 200 euros for my hd600 (they cost 279 new), 150 for the m2 and 100 for the m1 (both wired, both over ear).

The hd700 i AM pretty sure it will br discontinued since it was not very sucessfull and the hd660 kind of replaces it. Maybe they will keep the hd600 and as cheaper alternatives in the hd6*0 line, kind of like beyer with the dt770 and the dt1770 and etc... Who knows.... But the beyers havê a big price gap between them. These new hd660 dont cost much more the hd600 and 650, unless of course they plano to drop the price on these 2.

In this case I'm happy to have my Hd700, strange balance but for sure different in comparison to any possible HD 6xx, and incredible comfort and for me a very fascinating sound overall.

Now I only want to be able to order the Hd660s in Italy!! Grrr

I AM selling some stuff to finance this as well. My 2 over ear momentums will be sold since i barely use headphones on the street and at home i havê nicer stuff like the x2s and hd600s....

But i dont completely rule out selling my hd600s as well.... I like them but i do not love them. Like their resolution and detail but i always wanted them to sound a bit fuller, more musical and less analytical and dry. Actually my idea at first was to sell the momentums to buy and compare the hd650s against my hd600s.... And then the anouncement was made.... Completely f-ed my plans..... But i dont know if i will get the h660s right away.... Seems to much to give away 3 pairs of very good headphones to pay for just one. I do not doubt theybare worth it but still....

Do you guys think the hd650 will be discontinued if this hd660s is a hit?

Is it me or the release of the hd660s is basically sennheiser admiting that they screwed up on the hd700 and showing everyone they could do better with the hd700 driver? But if so, once again this could mean the end of the road not for one but 2 headphones, the 650 and the 700....

They keep selling the HD 800 alongside the HD 800 S so they keep selling the HD 650 most likely.

200 for a second hand HD600? I think if you put it up for sale the offers you'll get will more likely be in the 100-150 range.
I'm keeping mine for sure.

I hope they will continue with the HD600.

It's something of a reference for neutrality and is a popular professional tool I believe.

I don't know if Sennheiser is going to cancel the HD650 or not but I like them so much that I joined the $200 Massdrop to have an extra pair. So if they do cancel the HD650 then I'm set with 2 pair. I find that my HD650 gets virtually all of my head time for music listening while my HD598's (SE and CS) are permanently residing at our TV's for night time after my wife hit's the hay. My HE500's are used occasionally for music listening when I'm in the mood for something different and enjoy them when I do pull them out but my go-to's are the HD650.

The introduction of the HD660 is pretty darn interesting, especially that it's been so long waiting for an HD650 successor. I'm interested in reading people's impressions of them and how much different (improvement) they are over the HD650. If they indeed are way better than the HD650 then I'll have to reconsider my options but I'm certainly in no hurry. For sure I would want to hear them first hand and comparatively against the HD650 before drawing any firm conclusions.

You have some time left to decide... the HD600 has been available since 1997, the HD650 has been available since 2003. Both headphones are still produced and still available. So I may only guess that the HD660s will be available for some time, where’s the rush to buy them just Now? And the price will decrease when it is widely available in all retail stores and web merchants, as with all other Sennheiser products... No rush here, let’s wait for a few reviews first and a better pricing...

Once they’re out and about the news of the 660s debut should be fairly paramount considering the thousands of current satisfied users from over a decade, not to mention the unmitigated Massdrop success of the HD6XXs.

As much as I appreciated Sennheiser’s endeavor on the HD700s is was in no way a new and improved replacement on the venerable 600 series with a totally different approach and sonic signature, but still I preferred the new and improved over the aging classic.

Funny though…dropped my HD580/600s once I had the 700s, but picked up a used pair of 650s once the 800S replaced my 700s after 2 years, jumped on the bandwagon for the HD6XX..sold the 650s…replaced those with a pair of Massdrop AKG K7XX ruby reds (poor mans 800s), which then got relegated to other services and so picked up a new pair of 650s this past summer. Lol

If the 660 retain the much beloved 600 series signature, but with improved frequency response, driver control and lower distortion, it should be a winner and a worthy successor, will the 600/650 be retired who knows?

And of course being a long time head-fier curiosity will eventually get the better of me. …for the time being I alternate between the 800S and 650s depending on the recording.

Fascinating journey! I would never reach for my 650 over my 800S though. That’s an impressive compliment to the 650, that you can.
