    That's kind of where I was. If you're like me, you'll probably like HD600 > HD660s > HD650

But I've only been listening for an hour and a half or so. Let's see in a month.

When available in my country I will for sure get a pair quickly and compare... especially with the Hd700, which is a can that I like very much (ok I know I'm one of the few :p ).

Thanks for this review and my wallet is much happier since the HD660S is close to the HD650. I guess all the talk of the HD660S having a HD700 driver was just talk, I'm one that was hoping the HD660S would be closer to the HD700 rather than the HD650 to tonal balance.

How does the HD660S compare to your modded MS2?

Can still be: enclosure can do a lot, especially with Sennheiser drivers, which produces reasonably "per-se" flat sounding transducers since the Hd414 back in '68... Main alterations I guess are due to the different enclosures. With the HD700 you can hear the peculiar mids with no signal just by how the enclosure filter external sounds.

my hd600 gets treated more carefully than my 6 month old babygirl.... pretty sure she hates me already....

    Jk of course.... :D

I dont have a stand and i dont put them in the box but everytime i take them off i try to place them on a table or something always very gently. :)

Actually you'll be surprised, it's really the enclosure and pads that is what makes the HD 700 sound so different and is also what causes the problem people have with it. With some mods and EQ the HD 700 can sound quite close to the HD 600/650.

Why should Sennheiser voice the HD660S similar to the HD700? Only a minority seems to like the HD700, they would have created a s...storm instead of sales.

So you think the hd600 remains the reference it always was and now the hd650 is passable? Why do you see someone choosing the hd650 over the 660s?

In terms of overall sound quality, resolution.... did you felt the hd660s was a upgrade over the hd600/650?

Amartignano, just noticed you have the hd25. I am a hd25 fan as well. Is the hd700 any close to its sound sig or not so much?

Funny.... i can help to want the hd660s but at the same time i still feel inclined to the hd650. Descriptions make the 650 seem like its the bassier and fuller sounding of the three and that kind of makes me want to still try them...

I for one love my HD650 but prefer the HD700, horses for courses as they say

HD700 soundstage and ability to present precise imaging at the same time is one of their biggest strengths

I think its more that a smaller number actually bought the hd700. The hd700 get hated on like ps500, as the ps1000 crowd would see the BIGGER aspect of it as being more manly kind of like the hd800 being BIGGER and Manlier. Boys will be boys. But from most of the users who had both, they did give the edge to the 700 (over 6xx), so the hate on it was obviously... just hate. Even after seeing the hd800, when i saw 700 i was like

but the more i looked at it, ithought its not so bad. But the 6xx stuff does look more classy IMO, and the 600/650 crowd always seem to stay seperated from the 700 isolated crowd. And the 800 crowd, well, obv they must strut their end game walk

    and when i get a 800s i will also strut. :D

    endgame and trellus like this.

I understand this since i also love to mod Grado's where the type of wood along with the shape does influence the sound a lot and pads are also great for tuning the sound. I don't use EQ due to logistical reasons and i would never want the HD700 to sound like the HD600/650.

What do many complain about the HD650, the "veil", a small sound stage and the muddy bass, traits that the HD700 don't have. It why i was hoping that Senn took the good parts of the HD650 (mids) and good parts of the HD700 (sound stage, bass, and no "veil". FWIW I sold my HD600 because of a small peak in the treble that bothered me at times but have no issue with the HD700, HD800 or T1 which all would consider much brighter.

As for the HD700 its like the HD800 where supporting gear is important, more so than the HD600 or HD650 IMO.

It’s been a while since I had the 650 so unable to make a comparison but there is little to fault with the 660s based on initial impressions— seems perfectly balanced, rich and soulful sounding. Looks classy too. The only other Sennheiser I have now is the 598, which was my first quality sounding headphone from years ago. Not sure what’s better out there for $500.

Well, from what I am reading in the comments the HD 660 S is not the one these things, I already imagined, it is better than its predecessor but not worth 500 dollars, so I think I will buy AKG K712 same, it may be a little lower but it's a lot cheaper, now if it's being sold for up to $ 430, I'll buy it.
