Sennheiser HD650?

The HD650 is relatively new (2 years old), and will be Sennheiser's flagship headphone for another couple of years.

New, old, whatever, they are still the best headphone on the market right now.

Although I wouldn't contest that (for that price bracket anyway), there are bound to be others who will disagree with some passion.

One of them certainly.

One of the best... no such thing as "The Best".

I would certainly not recommend anything else in that price range.
650's could easily command double their price and I would still think it's value for money.

I've heard some electrostats, K-1000's and other higher priced phones. HD650's can definitely compete with the best of the best provided they are driven by a good amp.

own them both: no need for a flame war. they are different sonic signatures,
best used for different kinds of music; only one constant: good source, excellent amplification. I find the Heed is best with both of all the amps I have
owned.

You really are unbelievable.

I have owned the HD650's for a long time. I still have them, and I think they are excellent cans. I still use them from time to time with other phones that I own. But to state categorically, as you have made a point of doing for the past 24 hours in various threads, that they are "the best," etc., is just silly. You are pronouncing as absolute fact something that is obviously a matter of personal preference and opinion. And you seem intelligent enough to know the difference. Therefore, one can only conclude that you persist in making such statments just to be annoying and to start arguments. Grow up, will ya.

Didn't I call it that there would be a HD650 vs k701 flame war

Granted, I could have never have predicted the tyraids of one particular HD650 member. Seems silly not to respect the opinions of others. I love my HD650s, and I realize others have the same feelings about the k701.

Well, just to expand on the obvious, if you have a tube amp, it is pretty clear that the K701, for example, sounds better than the HD650 with certain tubes, while the HD650 arguably sounds better than the AKG 701 with other tube sets. Even putting aside different tubes, various headphones sound better than others with different source and amp combinations. And this is all exlcuding the personal preferences of listeners for certain sound presentations. So to assert that the HD650 is the best under any and all circumstances for everyone is patently absurd (and, again, I am a huge fan of the HD650.)

Totally true!!! And why we would have a HD650 vs k701 flame war until we're blue in the face. No doubt, those who favor the HD650 do so because it sounds best on their system/ fits their preferences. And those who favor the k701 do so because it sounds best on their system. So instead of belittling the other, or trying to generalize what sound characteristics an oposing headphone has (which I've learned is not fair at all with the way sources differ), we should just respect what people's preferences are.

Absolutely. If I didn'y buy 701's, I would've got 650's for sure.
Great headphones. Not too bassy @ all. Near flat reference and mega COMFORTABLE.
