Hello...

I am an owner of a pair of Sennheiser 650 headphones for about a month now. I am using them with a Russ Andreus HP-1 ammplifier, connected to a Russ Andreus DAC-1. I am listening using iTunes, via usb. Tonight when I was listening this psalm:

at 2:02 to 2:05,the headphones produced a dissorted sound. When I turned the volume up, the sound became very dissorted. I just wanted to ask, anyone that uses these headphones, if he experience the same sound problem. I am concerned if my headphones are damaged.

That's really interesting you should say that. I've owned mine for a few weeks now, being driven by the Tomahawk. I've only noticed it when I EQ up the bass too much with my player, but I do hear some distortion sometimes. I guess you're just not supposed to EQ like this?

I'm hoping that the upcoming Hornet upgrade will give these phones more bawlz.

Thanks for your response...

As I said, I use an external DAC and an amplifier. There is no equalizer, nor anything else that could degrade the sound. The sound from my system is really exceptional. I am extremely happy with it. It is supposed to be the best synergy for the 650 (The Russ Andrews is the modified stello one). I used to have distortion when I was using my system at VERY high levels. But with this particular song, I hear distortion, even with the volume at 10

I just tried your sample, and my rig (Macbook Pro -> MicroDAC -> Tomahawk -> HD600, btw) handled it just fine, with no audible distortion. There wasn't much in the way of bass in the passage, though, which is where I've noticed it: complex, bassy bits.

Thank you guys...

your inner foam or something isn't vibrating is it? you can pull off the pads and plastic surround (they can be quite tight), and then refit them to make sure everything is tight and ok in there. you could listen to the track before refitting to eliminate that cause. if you search the site for foam removal on 650, you will get instructions.

Judging by the sound in that segment, you could have a hair stuck in there, or more likely a crinkled diaphragm. I suggest you get them repaired if they're under warranty.

If they're not under warranty, you can open them up and remove the hair or, with a toothpick and sticky tape, try and de-crinkle the diaphragm. Bear in mind that the crinkle might come back again because it's been weakened.

no distortion here with that sample.
