after the many headphones i tried i think hd-650 is the king of the buck, for every penny you spend, The weight, comfort, and sound makes up for more than the quality for other headphones. looking forward to the hd-700.

Yes, after listening to all the top tiered dynamics, the HD650 is incredible for the money that you spend, and scales up quite well.

I find the top tier cans of old (DT880, HD650,etc) to be very good values since they typically go for around 200-350 in the used market depending on which headphone. Diminishing returns kicks in real hard after and you go into HD800,T1, LCD3 prices.

I do like what I'm hearing but the squeaking is annoying but not as bad as when I had the HD600 since I think I figured out the right position for minimal squeaking. I'm not quite sure how far up these scale since I don't really have any entry level stuff I want to turn on since I'm too lazy but my Yulong D100 to Violectric V200 sounds nice.

The sqeaking surprises me, but yeah, your source and amp are very good, upgades from the V200, and D100, are at the point of tiny incremental returns, unless you wanted a more colored source, I think an accurate source like the D100 is the way to go.

Razor Dog Deals is intense!  I e-mailed about the 650's this morning, he replied within a minute or two.  Got my price locked in and ordered up.  Received confirmation right away and shipping number 3 minutes after that.  Wow.

We'll see how good they are with the packaging when they arrive!

TBH I am not completely sure why I re-wanted the 650's again, this has to be like the 7th pair I've gotten.

Their packaging is pretty standard.  Just the Senn box inside a slightly larger cardboard box with a folded piece of cardboard positioned so the Senn box doesn't move around.  No need for extra padding since that's all in the Senn box.

Agreed, edited the post!  Hopefully we can keep this a head-fi trade secret

The outer sleeve sennheiser uses for the hd600 and hd650 gets scratches and dents if you look at it funny -- amazon's method is to throw it in a box with some vacuum pillows, unimpressive if you ask me!

Hm, interesting.  I actually don't think RDD packages the 650's in a shipping box, but that they come pre-packed for shipping from Senn.  The outside of my shipping box had a HD650 label on it.

Edit: although, I guess it's possible that RDD sells so many that they prepack them ahead of time and label the boxes, making it easy to just grab one off the shelf and send it out.

Unfortunately it does not surprise me as the HD600 had this issue as well and some others have noted the same. However I have figured out the position where I Have minimal squeaking so it's not too bad.

I do like what I hear so far and it is different than my v2.5 Magnums and T50RP. I know what the HD800 sounds like on my system so I know it is different than the HD800 as well if I end up getting that headphone but I need to wait for a good price. I think I'll keep the HD650..for now

Also I do agree about incremental gains at this point. I've tried some dacs much more expensive than mine and while I do hear the difference the money I have to spend is a bit of a setback since I don't want to spend that yet.

thats odd.
ive had headphones that squeek but my 650s are not one of them.  they fit so snugly on my dome that im not sure how they could move enough to squeek

It rubs against my glasses which are plastic in material. I'm not sure why its only these and the HD600. The only thing that touches there area where my glasses are the pads. I've owned other headphones with similar material but no squeaking so not sure why it's just the Senn HD6x0.

Hm, I don't wear glasses with my phones, but I can't get my HD650 to squeak no matter how I move them.  And when they're on my head they don't budge at all.  I don't recall my HD600's squeaking either.

It happens with all 3 of them so it might be the material it is made of. I have no idea why it squeaks but all I know is that it does since it goes away if I take them off but I can't see very well if I do that.

I just tried something, and you're right, the Senn 6xx series do sqeak more while I had my sunglasses on than just about any other can I have, even my 558/598 senns. Like you I could find a spot where it pretty much went away by placing the headband more torwards the front of my head than I normally would.  A friend owns the HD800, and says no sqeaking, but the earcups are very dfferent on them, as you know.

HD800's for a grand would be nice!!!
