Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Why do these sound so good and feel soooo uncomfortable... I'm hating the head-vice clamping force of these things.. I have had them since xmas but I don't use them much because they constantly try to crush my head.... my DT880 were from day 1 and still are much much more comfortable than these HD6XX's which is a shame.. I am trying to actually wear these more and see if they loosen up.. but no not so far...
You should try the original Sennheiser HD650. It has less clampforce than the 6XX. I had both and its a really noticeable difference.

You can check clamping force values on rtings.com for the headphones they tested.

I know what you mean. I very gently bent mine (HD600 & HD650). They're very comfortable now. YMMV

If’you’re going to bend something(I most certainly had to), do it only to the metal parts after extending them all the way out. The plastic headband itself doesn’t like being forced.

The worst clamp for me in this series was the 58X. It was a simple matter to cut a 1 X 2 to a length that would stretch out the band a bit when placed just above the pads (so as not to squeeze down the pads). Pad the ends. Stored it on this brace when not in use for a few weeks, and it was just fine.

Get a pile of books or an appropriately sized box and put them between the ear cups. That will stretch them out gently over time without putting too much strain on the headband. Don't stretch the headband itself with your hands - it might snap - although some people have had success fully extending the metal yokes and bending them a bit. I think slow and steady is best though.

To @hbmorrison: Any thoughts further about the Custom Cans UK modifications to Senn 600 / 650 / 6XX ?

I have an xDuoo TA-26 on the way so I am waiting to hear what the HD6xx's sound with it before experimenting.

I'm a little hesitant though because I really like the sound of them as they are. Almost tempted to get a second pair to satisfy my curiosity.... but that would be Bad 😁

Throw my Custom Cans modded HD6XX into the mix as well. This is the V2 mod which is a bit shinier.

There's no denying to my ears that the mod provides a worthwhile benefit. I've also had it on the HD600 (very much worth the increased bass it provides on the 600).

The HD6XX is so affordable, even if you didn't like the change you could easily sell your modded pair and buy a new set.

I like the 6XX normally, but not enough to have kept it. I like the 6XX modded ALOT... I've kept it.

Hahaha, I did stuff the donut. Well, it came pre-stuffed. Custom Cans provide several foams to adjust the tuning slightly. I just leave it as it was provided.

The V2 mod is beautifully shiny. Was a nice surprise (I bought the 6XX pre-modded as I had a nice discount from them), I expected the copper version.

The 6XX version is nickel-plated. No difference in taste sound from the copper doughnut backweight.
