Between 600 and 699. At the user's discretion.

a serious answer?
When I bought mine I was told that 100 hours was a good target. I left it playing for a week and have been loving it ever since.a serious answer?

Just got my first pair of 650's and looking to get a new set of pads. What is a good choice? Looking at the fenestrated sheepskin, or just the sheepskins.

Fenestrated sheepskin is the best IMHO. Fenestrated (perforated) models are always better for open headphones.
Sennheiser tune a lot of their headphones using the pads, and the 650/6XX is no exception, so very different pads will substantially alter the sound.Just got my first pair of 650's and looking to get a new set of pads. They're also designed around the sound when the pads settle. Let everything condition and adjust, and you'll find them pretty comfortable. You can flex the headband and use the headband tilt and band adjustment to get a comfortable position.

Is it true that from 2015 onwards the hd 650 no longer has the veil on the sound and has improved sonically?

Hmmm…100 hours, that‘s the expected life of the stock pads as well. When I bought mine I was told that 100 hours was a good target. I left it playing for a week and have been loving it ever since.
I would argue that the HD 650 doesn't have a veil, it just doesn't sound bright like many other headphones. Is it true that from 2015 onwards the hd 650 no longer has the veil on the sound and has improved sonically?
