Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I like the BH Crack with my HD700 but it also depends on the tubes used since the HD700 is only 150ohms so using a power tube that has a lower output impedance like the TS5998 seems to keep the HD700 from being too rolled of in the highs. While the HD700 does sound better with a tube amp it does sound good/great with some of the slightly warmer SS amps like the Liquid Carbon, HA-501, Polaris and a few others.
I'am picking up a used pair of HD700($350) tomorrow evening and for the amp i will be using CRACK,SEX and my DIY amp.I think for the price(US$350)it's a good deal.

THANKS!

Only a Head-Fi'er would understand this statement and not be confused :)

May be not as many as my fellow head-fi'ers but, I bought a bunch of items BECAUSE I thought they were a deal and guess what, I don't use most of them :D . Now I feel I should have pooled in all the money and should have spent it wisely. Retro is always 20/20 though.

It's all a matter of perspective, experience and personal preference but I see someone with 20+$300 headphones and I think, Wow, that's like 5+ ToTL headphones! I was lucky and don't really regret any of my purchases as I worked my way up to my "near" endgame setup.

I do think it's always better to let the hype die for a new product and see how it fairs after users have some real head time and compare it to other known headphones.

BTW, HD650 is here to stay no matter what other headphones I get.

:dt880smile:

Exactly!! Maybe the old boy has invented new names for amps.

What about the new Schitt Feck?

For Americans wondering what might be going on .... feck is a common word in Ireland, used by many housewives on a regular basis!!

So, I joined the recent 6XX Massdrop after comparing my (sibilant) Fidelio X2s with my brothers HD650s.
Night and day difference! No more will I have to fear that the next song might have a tad to high volume and induce feelings of S-shaped needles piercing my eardrums. :)

I appreciate all kind of genres so I think these will be great. My only gripe is that I did not try out more music such as Kavinsky - Nightcall or El Huervo - Daisuke.

The drop of 4500 units of the 6XX all sold out already?

I would not have been surprised to hear that double that number had sold out on pre-order.

The fact that Sennheiser has introduced a new audiophile headphone, aimed at the mid-priced market, with a new driver is HUGE and it's the fist FS headphone in at least 5 years that has actually made me want to spend money without having heard it first.
