I keep reading that here, and it's on my short list of amp upgrades (list is down to Crack and the NuForce HA-200), but I am worried about how the Crack will "synergize

" with my Grado RS2i.  Any thoughts there?

Thanks, in advance.

I can not speak for the Crack....but the synergy between Grado's and the Mad Ear is legendary on these here forums

Yes exactly. From 3 tube amps i have i prefer Crack

That's quite an endorsement for the crack/hd800 combo.

It's sound signature i prefer after trying different tube combinations with Crack and CSP. You just enjoying the music as whole without thinking about which frequency range is better present. I know you think HD800 too bright but that's what tube rolling is for and EQ makes it more easier

As my musical preferences have shifted over the years (and my hearing aged too) and after more than decade of enjoying my HD 600, I have decided to switch to a darker/fatter/mellower headphones - HD 650. Will see how it pairs with my Schiit stack - I think it should be just perfect! My trusty old 600s were just sold to a fellow head-fier, they will be missed for sure. New 650s are on their way here (grabbed them for 419,00 on Amazon)!

Let us know which one you like more! :)

I really like my HD650s. Grain free, full bodied and lush. I love listening to female vocals with those, but they sound a bit too pritty at times. Never heard the HD600, maybe a mistake.

I finally realized after listening to so many different headphones, $100 pairs to $5000 i still realized that, i still love my sennheiser hd650s. i have never heard another headphone that can produce detailed but heavy bass like the sennheiser hd650s. Even though the sound is a little laid back, i still love them. i tried the grado sr325is and i just didnt like the sound, it was sort of muffled, there was (to me) hardly any detail. all i have to say is I LOVE MY 650s! No one can take them away from me!

I am loving my Schiit Valhalla, Modi, 650 combo, the Valhalla extends the midrange clarity into the treble, while tightening up the bass. Jamming the Smashing Pumpkins, "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", this combo rocks and I finally can understand all of the lyrics on the 650's. Who says the 650's can't rock!?!

Depends on a budget, but I consider Schiit Bifrost/Asgard 2 pretty much endgame stack for Sennheiser HD600/650 class headphones.
I love my Schiit gear.

I by no means have the golden ears to pick up  the details like some or the terminologies, still working on training my ears but for the fun of it , I decided to play around with some set ups

album: Cassandra Wilson's New Moon Daughter FLAC 44kHz  equalizer off
Phone HD650 - all stock . Estimating about 100 hours on it

Amarra> Ciunas > WA6-SE ( tubes 596/ 6EM7)
Amarra> Ciunas > Crack with SP( tubes: 421A)

for HD650

either is enjoyable for sure. I am more  familiar with the sound of the Woo so might pick it and might seem warmer to my ears which I prefer
the different tubes types have their parts

either amp will work. Woo does have the advantage of working with low/high phones but does cost more too . If you are into DIY the crack will be cheaper

I don't know if its the honey moon phase, but i just received some C3G to 6AK5 Adapters for My Little Dot MKIII and plugged some used C3G's and this setup is the best i have ever heard. The C3G's are usually built into High End Amplifiers from Japan and have accurate linearity. I listened to Elliott Smith Basement on a Hill and had a 3D effect of Elliotts strumming on his guitar. Details were very rich too.

The new Coldplay album "Ghost Stories" sounds like it was made for the HD650s.  It just a nice, dark, soft, and beautiful album.  The HD650s really bring it to life.

Hmm...I like the new Coldplay but find it not well recorded. None of their albums are imo

It's not a bad recording, but it's nothing special, either.  At least the HD650s are fairly forgiving of bad recordings.  If I put on my DT990s, it would find every fault, I'm sure.
