I get to join your club!  I recently took delivery of the HD650s, and OMG, they are amazing.  I have the Bifrost Uber feeding the TEAC HA-501, which then drives the HD650s.

They are very musical.  Very refined, yet smooth, and just downright musical.  Wonderful headphones.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys....Especially James-UK. Even though it is indeed a first world problem, I feel like the cables are just not flexible. I'll give em a good soak in some Nivea and report back.

Just passed the one year mark with my 650s

Suffice it to say, they won't be getting replaced anytime soon.

I just finished listening to Wrecking Ball by Emmylou Harris. Her voice sounds wonderful with the 650's. I want to have her babies.

The vocals with hd650s are just amazing, male or female. I think the tubes inside my vali also add some butter to vocals

Hey guys, I'm planning to get the HD650's and I need to know which is my best option regarding portable amplifiers to combine with these cans.
I think that something like the E12 from FiiO might not be good enough to power them up, is the UHA-6S.MKII a better option? Any thoughts?
The goal is not to spend too much (I know in this hobby that is almost impossible haha) but still get some quality audio out of it... :)

I'm so close!  I filled out all the info on the Schiit site and am one button click away  buying the Valhalla.  I chickened out as I am still unsure as to which is amp is best.

ughgh I'm so excited! I want them so badly >_<. I think every day I just go look up stuff about the HD650 and get myself excited. I was looking at what people think of Michael Jackson and J-pop on the HD650's today. I used to be discouraged sometimes about the headphone when it came to detail because people and the whole "veil" thing but nowadays I just hear that the HD650 is quite detailed, it's just it doesn't present all of them in your face like some brighter cans will do. Then again, I'm coming from an Audio Technica M50, so the level of detail is vastly increased from that alone!

I also remember some time ago, an HD650 owner here who wanted to sell his (he was a russian fellow I believe) was at a meet and I let him use his HD650's on my amp and he loved it. Maybe I'll be in luck. I also remembering the guy who made my amp tuned it using an HD650 or HD600 as well.

I recently took delivery of the HD650.  I have a mess of other headphones (see sig).  I can tell you, without a doubt, there is no veil and they are very detailed.  The whole veil and "creamy butter" sound is greatly overblown.  These very clear and musical headphones.

@hodgjy I saw the you used to own the D1. Did you ever get the chance to try the two together? How did you like it?

I've found that every other headphone I've owned is good for something & bad for something else. Not so with the 650's, they're good at everything. Perhaps I just find the tonal balance more to my taste but there's an inherent musicality in these that has transformed the way I listen.

I used to stick some music on and think "I wonder what this sounds like on my Q701's" and play a couple of tracks before moving on to something else. With the Senn's I just stick music on & forget about everything else. Whole albums go by, then it's time for bed.

I can also state for a fact that, while I've suspected it to be a factor in other past components, burn-in is absolutely essential to the 650's sound. I liked them from the get-go but they sound incredible after around 200 hours.

All this is via my ODAC/O2 combo.
