Sennheiser HD650 Bass Rattle. Help!

I've had my 650's for 5 months and there has been no problems until now. With deep bass music there a slight rattle/buzz out of the left channel. I have swapped cables, and also tried the phones on my mac with no change and the buzz remains. At quieter listening levels there is no buzz, also with jazz and classical it's no problem. It's stuff like Massive Attacks Angel that trips up. Any advice would help before I send them off for repair

Check if there is any hair inside. I experienced this many times, and when I removed the foam and earpad, I always found my hair on the diaphragm.

No luck Lucky Luke, even tried a light vacuum with all the pads off.

Ok had some scary success, I've taken off all pads and grills on LHS phone. I found that the light vacuum I had done previously squished the driver

. I had to vacuum from the other side to get it back into shape again. The buzzing bass has all but gone on LHS, except if volume is pumped up to levels I really wouldn't listen to anyway, with really deep pounding bass music only. Both channels sound matched, I hope I didn't stress out my cans to much. I need a stiff drink this was very stressful.

hm someone should have warned you not to use a vacuum. drivers are way too fragile, you got off lucky this time.

next time, try to lightly blow on the driver or try to spot the hair and use tweezers to pull it out.

I hope that is all that you need to fix the rattle.

I had my HD600 drivers replaced because Sennheiser repair center found nothing wrong with the headphone.

Have you still got rattle? i have k271s and comes in bass songs with mine to.cant find any hair and playing wonderfull at lower volumes but when i turn up loud.krr krr krr krr? have used them for 40 hours and have to turn the bass on - side when im gonna rock

Sent my HD650’s back for a replacement pair, no hair to be found either... if their only 40hrs old then it’s most probably not hair and something more sinister. Are they under Warranty?

I registered just to say thank you for the suggestion about a hair on the driver and trying to blow it off. I had a very similar bass rattle (which annoyed me to no end) that was happening on certain low frequencies on my Sennheiser HD590, like the one described in this thread. A couple years has gone by and I was almost to the point of junking them and buying something different.

While I wasn't immediately able to see any hairs on the driver, when I removed the earpads and blew some air on both sides with the hand blower that I use for cleaning my DSLR, it seems to have completely fixed the problem. I never realized the drivers were so sensitive, there must have been a hair or some other foreign object stuck to it that the blower was able to dislodge.

Thanks again. It saved my HD590 from the trash.

A couple of years!! That’s very tolerant, annoyed the hell out of me the first time I heard it. Pulled those suckers apart on a search and destroy mission, to no avail. Still waiting for replacements...

I have done the exact same thing a few times also to no avail, but for some reason I never thought of using my hand blower on it. I haven't really listened to them basically at all in the past year. It really annoyed the hell out of me too, so when I did use them it was only for music/media that had little to no bass (and in turn no rattle). I sent them to Sennheiser once when they were under warranty, but 6 months later the problem returned and my warranty was then up... I was thinking that it was an issue with the driver and it needed to be replaced, but that wasn't something I was prepared to pay for. I originally bought these new relatively cheap for $94, so if they ever turned into junk it, I figured I may as well invest in a better pair (I just hadn't gotten around to buying another yet).

Thanks for the inputs. will try look some closer with better lights(and maby a handblower) before i send them back. I really hope it works
