Hello there,

Is the Sennheiser HD600 enjoyable on my Pc / XBox One without an external amp for now? Like I could go with it for now and buy a good amp later on? Or shouldn't it be used without an external amp at all? I've got couple of 312 api preamps and 2 x neve 1073s I could hook it up to haha.

For my Pc's motherboard, I got the Asus X99 Deluxe II: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99-DELUXE-II/

Thanks in advance.

its not too hard to drive...used it for gaming out of a MixAmp Pro for years.

As far as with no amp,i dont think thats a wise investment.

EDIT: forgot to mention that the clamping got to me for long gaming sessions,so i ended up getting a Fidelio X1,and thats a better choice for gaming IMO.

easier to drive, better soundstage, better bass impact.

So the game one headset might be more suitable?

HD600 is better in the long run (as long as you want HD600's kind of sound)
My younger brother uses his HD650 for gaming plugged directly into his laptop everyday, and he like them very much.

HD600 will last you a decade or more, you'll surely be able to get a dedicated amplifier in the future.

Pick HD598 and you'll be selling it in a year or two...

No clue,i steer clear of gaming headsets after going thru several breaking on me in short time.

If gaming is your only use,i cant recommend the X1 or X2 more, theyre really nice for that duty....explosions have a lot of impact and soundstage makes footsteps easy to pick up on.

If you want something more neutral than HD600 might be better.

A Sennheiser HD558 (used $35-$70), with it's black rubber tape removed from insides the cups, might make a better FPS gaming headphone, then the HD600.
But the HD600 should offer better audio quality.

So you might consider getting the HD558 for FPS gaming and use the HD600 for everything else.
