Sennheiser HD595 vs. HD600

I'd say HD600 is better in all respects, possibly save for size of headstage and unamped performance.

OK.

What's your total spending budget for headphones + amp?

Will you be using your ipod and headphones for portable use, or only at home?

What is your maximum budget and do you plan on using other sources. If not it would be best to get a pair of easier to drive phones.

Do you need isolation or care about sound leakage. Does size or portability matter?

my spending budget is around 350 or 400 dollars if i can maybe buy the headphones first wait for a week then buy the amp

i will be using these for portable and at home use but at home i already have an amp hooked up to my pc to use... so im basically just lookin at portable

What amp do you have connected your PC? Do you want open or closed phones. So you want something for portable and home use? Your going to have to compromise somewhere as portables don't always make great home phones and fullsize models don't make good portable phones. Maybe split your budget and get a portable phone and a separate fullsize model for home use.

My recommendation would be to skip the portable amp and get a HD 600 plus an IEM (Etymotic, Phonak...). Real portability and wearing comfort are valid aspects, too.

if you're going to be using the ipod and/or voyager, then probably the HD595, although amping the 595 with the voyager won't bring about dramatic improvements. However, having said that, the HD600 is definately a giant step up and scales even higher as you make improvements to the rest of your system.

There is something that the hd 595 is better than the hd 600:they can be driven by a portable player.

And the 3D soundstage is better IMO. That's why I prefer HD595s with movies. HD600s are far better for music with proper amplification.

I use an iPod 5G line-out with the Voyager and HD595s at home (the iPod as a source sounds a lot better than my separates system!). Personally I wouldn't recommend HD595s in this setup for hip-hop or classic rock - they're too laid back. And they're not really suitable for portable use as they leak like a sieve.

You might want to consider alternative phones which have more punch and a better bass. I won't recommend what I haven't heard but there are plenty of threads here which describe such 'phones.
