I'm planning on buying the Sennheiser HD558, but since the HD598 only costs about €15 more i'm thinking about buying the HD598 instead.

I found a couple of threads that might help you out:
I'm giving the two a quick listen now, and to my ears, the soundstage seems a little big bigger with the 598 (a bit wider and deeper), but there's a bit more bass in the 558. I'll have to give them a further listen, but they do sound similar to me.

Well, you answered your own question... didnt you? ^^ Or do you really, like reaaaaally want to make an argument over 15 friggin bucks? You know you want the HD 598 ... go get em tiger.
