The hd555 really doesn't have that much treble to begin with, I thought they were considered to be on the warmer side.
Try doing rca to 3.5mm male adapter> some cheap amp like a fiio e5 > headphones.  At least you get volume control this way.

thanks mythe. I actually sold them because i'm moving to something else.
 
but I don't have a clue why my treble was so high I do believe an amp would have fixed it.
 
I used them in halo 3 and most of the time I heard knife scratching was from a plasma nade.
 
If any of you have both halo 3 and a hd555 can you try this out and report back?

I'll definitely try as soon as my own adapters come in, I just ordered one and it should be here in a few days.  I won't be able to run them straight from the 360 without an amp because I got the rca to male 3.5mm adapter rather than the rca to female though.  I can try plugging into my tv I guess, but I've had bad experiences with tv headphone outs.
