I finally got around to doing that mod last week (removing the outside mesh, see avatar). And oh my, what a difference. So much more alive.... and open.... oh... the freedom! 
 
I would LOVE to compare these now to the sennhesier 600's or 650's.

Does anyone that own the hd 558 also own the sennheiser hd 650 or hd 600? I tried the sennheiser hd 558 and thought they were very comfortable and was wondering if the hd 6xx was just as comfortable????

Really? I heard the cups were actually smaller! That's great news if it is true. How is the clamp force? When I tried the hd 558 at best buy the clamp force was pretty much nonexistant.

Bigger cups means they cover a slightly bigger surface. I'm not sure if the cup on the HD650 is also deeper, but your ears won't touch the drivers for sure.

Clamping force is also very, very slightly stronger on the HD650. But this simply means you will initially notice you have the headphone on your head, whereas the HD558 is so light you barely feel it at all. I can effortlessly fall asleep with the HD558 on my head, while the HD650 was a little more uncomfortable. Anyway, I feel that even using the word 'clamp' referred to the HD650 is an exaggeration. The headphone is light and you can wear it for hours without any discomfort.

Odd, my opinion seems to be the complete opposite of yours. The earcups size is the same, but the HD650 earcups seem to be shallower to me when i auditioned them, the foam cushion presses against my ears while the HD558 does not touch my ears. I do feel that the HD650 clamps a little less than the HD558 as well. But I find the HD558 more comfortable in the end probably cause it's lighter.

So I can get these headphones at work for $100. How are they for electronic and hip hop? I prefer as much bass as I can get. I'm currently using the Denon D2K's and they sound great buy I don't think my Fiio E11 is giving them enough power to bring out their full capabilities, and I won't be getting another amp anytime soon.
